Absolutely delicious! This trifle looked beautiful and summery, and I will make it year-round. The crowd I made it for loved it. I used French Vanilla Cool Whip instead of the one in the recipe, and I topped the trifle with homemade whipped cream that I brought to the gathering in a separate bowl to add to it right before it was served. I had never made a trifle before, so I wasn't sure about how the custard mixture would become the right consistency. It does when refrigerated, and it is yummy! I used regular instant vanilla pudding instead of sugar-free, and it did not turn out very sweet. I like to marinate my strawberries several hours before making shortcake, so I did that before preparing this recipe. I drizzled the strawberry sauce on the two layers of angel food cake, which was store-bought. I can't wait to make this beautiful and delicious dessert again.
