Chicken Noodle Casserole I

Reviewed: May 19, 2014
I sauteed 1/2 chopped onion, 2 stalks chopped celery, 1 tsp chopped garlic in butter, and sprinkled liberally (1/2-3/4 tsp?) poultry seasoning and 1/4 tsp celery salt. Only other change was to add about 1/4 Cup milk to soup/sour cream mixture and used rotisserie chicken. Hubby loved it and so did I!

Sue Farnsworth's Roast in a Crock Pot

Reviewed: Jul. 21, 2011
Yes - I should have revised the cooking time! It should read 6-8 hours on low! Glad your family enjoyed it. It is a very easy "winter time" meal. I usually toss in some potatoes & carrots near the end. Thanks - Sue.

Beef and Cabbage with Rice

Reviewed: Jul. 13, 2011
I received this recipe from the Recipe Buzz exchange to make/review personal recipes. I wasn't familiar with "Pappy's Choice Seasoning" but googled it and it seemed pretty similar to Montreal Steak seasoning, so I did substitute for that. Served to my husband, son and daughter in law. Our son said "I could eat this everyday!" They both REALLY enjoyed it! My husband and I enjoyed it...but not everyday! The steak seasoning was a little spicy for us at 1 tablespoon (yes, we are wimps!) All in all - it was easy, filling, tasty, and we would make it again but using less than a tablespoon of the substituted spice! Our son asked me to email the recipe to him, so it was a total winner in his book! Thanks for sharing the recipe!

Baked Buffalo Wings

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2011
This is definitely a 5-star recipe IF you follow suggestions to dry wings thoroughly with a paper towel AND put in fridge for 1-2 hrs before cooking, then baste with sauce last 15-20 minutes or so. Tried cutting corners tonight (10 min in freezer) and it does not work! Minimum one hour in refrigerator!

Lemon Pepper Green Beans

OK, I admit - I cheated! I had a can of Italian cut green beans and this really kicked them up a notch! Talk about fast!

Shepherd's Pie

Reviewed: May 22, 2010
I used about 3/4 can of Heinz (sorry, Campbells!) Savory beef gravy instead of mushroom soup. Did not add peas or carrots. Used Green Beans instead, and real mashed potatoes. Layered green beans, hamburger/gravy mix, mashed potatoes, topped with cheese. My husband loved it! (Of course he mixes EVERYTHING up when he eats it, so this is kind of "pre-mixed"!) Not for company, but good comfort food and good forl eftovers.

Restaurant-Style Buffalo Chicken Wings

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2009
I was so excited to try these and after reading the reviews, decided to try baking them, spraying with PAM, etc. I must have done something wrong (obviously) because they ended up a flour-y mess with no crisp. Fried them a few minutes and am sure had I followed the recipe exactly and just fried them - they'd be great!

This was wonderful! Made & shared with some friends and we all loved it! Takes a little time (and work slicing the onions) but the results were faaarrr better than any I've EVER had in a restaurant. Thanks for a great recipe!

Chocolate Pretzels

Quick and easy! The HUGS seem to melt faster than the other types of kisses, so may wish to put those in for 1 minute only. The rest of the kisses did well at 90 seconds.

Winter Fruit Salad with Lemon Poppyseed Dressing

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2006
We love this salad! The tip to chop the fruits in advance and put them in a bit of the dressing to keep from browning really works! I had put aside a bit of the fruit (ok, I HID it so I could have a salad later!) - and just mixed it in with some lefover turkey, celery, onion, mixed a little of the poppyseed dressing w/mayo - and just ate the best turkey salad sandwich ever! Dressing is deeeelicious!

Slow-Cooker Chicken Tortilla Soup

Reviewed: Sep. 13, 2006
Yum - made this for dinner tonight and had to sneak a taste for lunch. Excellent! I also used Rotel Festiva tomatoes (w/lime & cilantro) and added black beans w/jalapenos and a can of pinto beans. Used the water I parboiled the chicken in and dumped everything in crockpot to simmer for an hour or 2 on low since chicken is cooked. It's terrific and I'm not much of a "spicy" food person!

Hot German Potato Salad III

Reviewed: Mar. 6, 2006
Had some friends over at the last minute for Brats on the grill. This was a great side dish! I peeled & sliced the potatoes about 1/4 inch thick, boiled for about 10-15 minutes and the dish was ready in 30 minutes! Excellent. Also, simmered my brats in beer with onion for 20 min before grilling - really DOES make a difference!

Grilled Corn on the Cob

Reviewed: Jul. 31, 2005
Simple and delicious. Tip: A friend of mine convinced me to NOT bother removing the silk before cooking - said "Once it's done, you just grab it from the top before husking, and it all comes out in one piece!" I was skeptical - but he was RIGHT!!

Tomato, Cucumber and Red Onion Salad with Mint

Reviewed: Jun. 17, 2005
This was a great snack while passing the time BBQ-ing with friends! Followed directions, but only snipped in a "little" mint, not the full amount. The mint really adds a little surprise to it! We had Sea Salt Bagel Crisps, spread some garlic and herb soft cheese on it, topped off with a cucumber/grape tomatoes sliced small/onions from the salad and really enjoyed it! Thanks - even better than Mom used to make!

Classic Spanish Sangria

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2004
Sure made the Cookie Exchange Party memorable (or not!). What a nice change from the usual drinks - my friends all LOVED it! Used $6 bottle of blackberry merlot ('not a wine, but a wine PRODUCT' I was informed by my local liquor store advisor:) and spiced rum. Deeeeeeeelishus!

Raspberry and Almond Shortbread Thumbprints

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2004
12/2006 Update - Suggest making them in 1 inch balls....very good/sweet but bitesize is best! ************************* BEST cookie at the Cookie Exchange! My official "taste-tester" (13 year old neighbor's son) told his Mom "Be sure and get ALOT of those raspberry cookies for me at the party!" I kept them small (maybe 1-1/2 inch balls) used a small indent, and squeezed the jam from corner of 'baggie'. Used the baggie for drizzling too (best invention!) They turned out size of 50cent piece and were 2-bite wonders! Try them.

Potato Chips

Teenage son and buddies loved these! I sprayed the potatoes with butter flavored Pam and cooked them on a plastic microwave bacon-cooker-thing with the ridges....nice and crispy after about 5 min.
