Widow, 76; learning to cook for one since my husband died. Sometimes end up eating the same thing for several days interspersed by a day of salads or something easy just for a change.
My favorite things to cook
Things with maple syrup, like Vermont Maple Bread Pudding, often requested when I ask what I can bring when I am a guest. Hungarian Goulash. Fig Pudding at Christmastime. Shrimp and scallop dishes. Pork chops in tomato sauce with onions and brown sugar. Cornish hens with orange rice stuffing and a glaze/gravy with current jam.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Guess I started my own with my children since I grew up in the depression and WWII, when my jobs were squeezing the yellow coloring into the margarine and making codfish cakes out of dried fish (rationing). Have never eaten codfish since!
My cooking triumphs
Oh, maybe Tres Leches and the Fig Pudding along with maple syrup desserts.
My cooking tragedies
An upside down pineapple cake, made for the first visit of my mother-in-law, which ended up all over the kitchen floor!
