About this Cook
I am a college student, writer, musician, and proponent of gay and women's rights. I am journalism and psychology. I publish some of my work at http://charrlie.deviantart.com/
My favorite things to cook
I love cooking Tex-Mex, Mediterranean, deli, and pub foods! I think homemade pizza and gourmet sandwiches probably top my list.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My family is Tex-Mex to the max. My dad makes buttermilk corn bread, Hoppin' John for New Years. My mother makes Chicken Parmesan, and egg and potato burritos. They worked together-while my two siblings and I were little-to make taco meat, homemade salsa, and other accoutrements of Mexican night. We also have some awesome Passover dinner traditions.
My cooking triumphs
My best yet-Butternut Squash Lasagna. Some of my biggest triumphs have been my original creations and interpretations. I mix my own sub sauce for my Superhero Submarine, subs on French bread, layered with Provolone, cheddar, turkey, roast beef, black olives, and sweet, plum tomatoes. My Chicken Passata (http://allrecipes.com/personalrecipe/62168100/chicken-passata/detail.aspx) is a popular family dinner.
My cooking tragedies
I think the two biggest mistakes I ever made in the kitchen were lemon-garlic pasta and fried okra. My lemon pasta was a briny, oily, inedible mess. I sometimes have cupcake recipes go horribly awry.

Sheryl's Baked Potatoes
Try serving with plain yogurt for moisture and zing, instead of sourcream. This is helpful and healthy if your spuds got too dry.

Spicy Honey-Roasted Chicken
I made this for my Passover dinner and it was a huge hit. I did baste it quite a bit with the butter, and add chopped apple to the cavity, but other than that I followed the recipe and had a beautiful result. It was moist, tender, and had an amazing flavor. Will make again.

Quick and Easy Pizza Crust
I really liked this recipe. I added basil to it for flavor and aroma. I found that it was a bit thin, but I did roll it out pretty thin. My result was an aromatic, crispy crust that was chewy around the edges. Highly edible!
