Old-Fashioned Pink Lemonade

Reviewed: Feb. 21, 2011
My son is a huge pink lemonade fan, so I made this for him to try. He gave it 2 thumbs up! We didn't use quite 2 cups of sugar as he likes his less sweet. Sure hits the spot!

Avocado Fish Tacos

Reviewed: Feb. 15, 2011
I used a cole-slaw mix in place of the red cabbage. These were good - the avocados gave it a different twist. We used cod for our fish. We had margaritas to go with them.

Oysters Rockefeller

Reviewed: Feb. 15, 2011
We made these with fresh oysters from Chincoteague Island. Loved them! They were a little time-consuming, but worth it! I used a bigger than normal dash of hot sauce, but that's because I really like it.

Butternut Squash and Turkey Chili

Reviewed: Feb. 15, 2011
Different. I enjoyed it - my husband did not. I followed the recipe just as is. Next time I think I'll use more spices - it seemed just a tad bland.

Slow Cooker Rosemary and Red Pepper Chicken

Reviewed: Feb. 13, 2011
I made this for today's Sunday dinner as a last minute decision. It was a great decision! Last night plans were made for my daughter and parents to come over for dinner today. So, this morning as the pineapple upside down cake was in the oven I had to figure out what I could make. I did add a can of diced, Italian style tomatoes as others suggested, as well as fresh sliced mushrooms. I also did not have Italian sausage, but used Chorizo sausage instead. We used rotini pasta as that is all I had. This was very good. I did cook mine on high for 5 hours and my chicken was not dry at all. I will be making this again!

Good Dog Cookies

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2011
Very easy to make, but I think the amount of oil used may be too much - it was awfully "oily" or "greasy" feeling. Also, the beef bouillon cubes adds an awful lot of salt to them. I also think they should have baked longer as they really aren't very crispy like a dog treat usually is. They did smell great while baking, though, and my dogs love them. I just think I'll probably stick with the pumpkin & peanut butter treats I normally make for them as they seem healthier to me.

Italian Wedding Cake Martini

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2011
This was pretty good. We thought the pineapple juice was just a bit overpowering, but it didn't stop us from having 2 each! The second one was fantastic - we dropped a maraschino cherry into the glass with a tiny bit of the juice. We'll be having these again, wedding or no wedding!

Alfredo Sauce

Reviewed: Jan. 29, 2011
Very easy to make and tastes great! I made it just as is to use in a recipe that called for a jar of alfredo sauce. I have only ever bought jarred alfredo sauce twice and didn't care for the taste of it either time. Now I know I'll just make it myself. Thanks for a great, easy recipe.

Pineapple Upside-Down Cake VII

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2011
I made this to take to a friend's house for dessert. It was a HUGE hit! I had never made a pineapple upside down cake before, but you can bet I'll be making more of them. I poured some coconut rum over the pineapple slices and let soak a while, then I used the rum/pineapple juice as most of my liquid for the cake; using about 1/4 c. water only. This cake was moist yet fluffy and the brown sugar made a nice crunchy topping. I was a little nervous about getting the cake out of my iron skillet, but it popped right out.

Home-Style Scalloped Potatoes

Reviewed: Dec. 31, 2010
Made these the other night and my son and husband both agreed they were way better than my normal go-to recipe! I will be using this recipe from here on out! Originally I was going to have to make them without onions because I didn't have any, but we ended up at the store so I picked up an onion. They would have been good without, too,I'm sure! Thank you for a top-rate scalloped potato recipe!

Green Salad with Cranberry Vinaigrette

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2010
This was my second try at a cranberry vinaigrette and I was much more satisfied with this. My nephew proclaimed it "Good enough to eat!". The salad was good. I used Feta cheese and added a diced red pear to it as well. There wasn't much left over.

Fall Salad with Cranberry Vinaigrette

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2010
I only got as far as making the cranberry vinaigrette. There is far too much vinegar in this, that is all you can smell and taste. I started over with another recipe.

Gingerbread Biscotti

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2010
Excellent! I took the advice of some other reviewers and used butter instead of oil. I was going to drizzle white chocolate over it, but I scorched the chocolate while melting it, so I just made a vanilla glaze and drizzled that instead. They are so tasty! These are going to go so well with coffee, tea, or hot chocolate. I've never made biscotti before so I am pleased how well this came out for me. Thank you for this easy recipe!

Goose and Kraut

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2010
A very good way to prepare goose. My husband and son are avid waterfowl hunters so I'm always looking for new ways to prepare their bounty. They don't clean their geese/ducks whole, they only save the breasts (except rarely). So, I cut goose breast meat into large chunks and just put it into the crockpot raw with everything else. Dinner will be in an hour, but I took a bite out to "taste test" it. Very good and I'm sure there won't be any leftovers! Thank you!

Boilermaker Tailgate Chili

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2010
I just put a big pot of this in the fridge for my dad's 74th birthday celebration tomorrow. I believe chili needs to be made one day and eaten the next as it's always better reheated. But, this stuff is OMG delicious! I have some "wimpy" family members so I did not add the chile peppers and I used beans in mild and medium sauce not spicy. I also left out the bell peppers and celery just because we don't care for that in chili. But, I do believe the beer and the sausage is what really makes this so good! That and the bacon. Yummy! Thank you for a fantastic recipe.

Gourmet Sweet Potato Classic

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2010
Heather - THANK YOU for this recipe!!! We have a favorite restaurant that has a sweet potato casserole very similar (if not exact) to this and I love it! I have tried and tried to duplicate it, but just never got it quite right; I'm thinking it's the cream. I made a 1/2 recipe of this last night to try it out on hubby and myself. Yup! Perfect - I will be making this again and again.

Chicken Cacciatore with Chorizo

Reviewed: Nov. 21, 2010
This was THE BEST meal we've had in ages! Fantastic! My husband said it was perfect! The only thing I didn't do was add mushrooms because when I pulled them out of the fridge they were bad. I served this over garlicky buttered noodles. Thumbs up! This was "plate lickin' good!!" Thank you Sarah for such a fabulous recipe!!!

Buttermilk Wheat Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2010
Very tasty. I didn't use my bread machine, I used my KA mixer instead but I think I should have let it work a little longer on the bread hook as it was kind of dense. After I took it out of the oven I spread honey on the top. I think I've finally found a good copy of the bread one of our favorite restaurants on Chincoteague Island makes!

Cheesy Chicken Meatballs

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2010
I'd give it 4-1/2 stars if I could. Very good, but not super fabulous - a bit too much garlicky flavor and they were pretty "hot", but I love hot stuff so it was fine for me, hubby thought it was just a tad too much, though he ate them and said he'd them again. At first when I told him what I was making he wasn't too sure about chicken meatballs. I wasn't real sure what to serve these with or how to serve them. I finally just made "kicked up" mashed potatoes and steamed some fresh green beans in chicken broth. It made for a very tasty meal.

Ranch Dressing II

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2010
So good I'm not sure I'll ever buy Ranch dressing again! The only thing I did differently was used fresh chives and parsley because I didn't have any dried. Oh, I also used buttermilk instead of the sour cream like some others had suggested. Fabulous!
