Banana Split Ice Cream Pie

Reviewed: Jun. 17, 2012
Made exactly as is this gets 3 stars. I made this for a Saturday afternoon cook-out with family. All members agreed that there were plenty of changes that could be made to turn this into a 5-star recipe. Next time I'll put a layer of chocolate-fudge topping on the bottom and maybe layer vanilla, chocolate and strawberry ice cream as all strawberry was too much strawberry. I also think I'll not put the whipping cream on until serving time so it isn't frozen. It was a nice, cool dessert for a hot summer day, it just needed some "tweaking" to suit our tastes.

Orzo with Parmesan and Basil

Reviewed: Jun. 17, 2012
This was delicious! I used fresh basil from my garden and freshly grated parmesan cheese. The flavors were fantastic. Originally I was planning on grilling chicken breasts to go with this and broccoli, but my husband stopped at the grocery store and lobster was on sale - so dinner was quickly switched to lobster, spinach salads and this orzo. We couldn't have gotten a better dinner out!

Buckeye Luncheon Sangria 2012

Reviewed: Jun. 3, 2012
I didn't make it - but I sure did drink it! Wonderful is all I can say. I will be making it very, very soon. OK, now I can say I've made it. We were camping and had a get together at our campsite. Everyone loved this drink! The pitcher was empty in no time!

Mom's Italian Beef Barley Soup

Reviewed: Apr. 22, 2012
As is this is not bad at all. Though, I didn't have tomato sauce, so I subbed in a can of diced Italian style tomatoes. After tasting, I just felt it needed a little more added to it to make it a perfect, complete meal. So - I added frozen mixed vegetables, a glug of red wine and some more seasonings to the crock pot. What happened was a complete meal with plenty of flavor. This was an excellent base to make my own version of beef barley soup. Thank you!

Garlic and Parmesan Dinner Rolls

Reviewed: Apr. 16, 2012
Yummy!Yummy!Yummy! These turned out really good and they're easy to make. I watched the video on how to make these from the home page of AR and decided I needed to try them. I even took the ends that I had trimmed off, pushed them together, added a little cheese & garlic to them and got one extra roll out of the batch. I hate to waste things.

Slow Cooker Spicy Black-Eyed Peas

Reviewed: Apr. 16, 2012
First time I've ever made black-eyed peas of any kind and I will say I'll be making them again. I'm only giving a 4-star because I feel there needs to be more flavor here, for us anyways. Next time I'm going to add more of everything.

Lemony Quinoa

Reviewed: Apr. 15, 2012
I liked the taste of this, except for too much celery for our likes. When looking at the recipe I knew that was too much, so I cut the amount in half. Next time I'll cut it down a little more even. Using fresh-squeezed lemon juice is a must - very tasty!

Hot Cross Buns I

Reviewed: Apr. 7, 2012
These were super easy to make and turned out fantastic! I had not had hot cross buns since I was a teenager and my mom would bring them home from the bakery she worked at. For some reason I kept thinking about them so looked for a recipe and chose this one. Boy - am I ever glad I did! They taste best slightly warmed up - I put them in the microwave at 40% power for about 35 seconds. The icing does not melt but the bun gets warm and soft. Yummy!! I can't wait for my mom to get here to try one of these!

Lime-Tarragon Grilled Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 6, 2012
We really liked the flavor of this chicken. I think using fresh lime juice is the key. I'm also thinking next time I make it I just might use fresh tarragon. The smell of this dish was fantastic! We will have this again, I'm sure!

Creamy Saffron Shrimp with Gnocchi and Caramelized Onion

Reviewed: Mar. 14, 2012
I'm giving this a 4-star rating; mainly because we didn't care for the brown sugar taste with the other flavors. Next time I'm simply going to sautee the onions and mushrooms in butter until soft, then add the other ingredients. The other ingredients created such a burst of flavors in the mouth! I had freshly grated parm/regianno cheese we used at the table and I added just a little extra basil. Wow!

Baked Sweet Potato Fries

Reviewed: Feb. 29, 2012
We all liked the "zing" of the pepper on these roasted "fries". They made an excellent side to our grilled chicken and broccoli. Even my daughter, who doesn't like sweet potatoes, enjoyed these.

Tortellini Carbonara

Reviewed: Feb. 7, 2012
We really liked this. Very quick and easy to make, yet tastes wonderful! The fresh parsley really gives it a good flavor along with the bacon and freshly grated parmesan cheese. We'll be making this again and again as I almost always have these ingredients on hand; especially in the summer when I'll have my own fresh parsley.

Slow Cooker Cilantro Lime Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 31, 2012
Another 5 star winner! When I walked in the door the smell of this coming from my crockpot was heaven! I can't even imagine how my dogs could stand this all day simmering above their noses on the counter top! As I was putting this together in the crockpot I discovered that my salsa was actually black bean and corn salsa, so I threw that in there and moved on. Wow! I will make this again but will always use the black bean and corn salsa - it added some great flavor to this dish.

Lime Cilantro Rice

Reviewed: Jan. 31, 2012
I'm giving this 5-stars as it is very good! My only complaint, and I'm pretty sure it isn't the recipe, but me, is my rice "clumped" together. The flavors of the lime and cilantro were wonderful. My husband put this right into his tortilla but I ate mine as a side. Fantastic either way.

Blue Cheese, Bacon and Chive Stuffed Pork Chops

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2012
This was very good. I'm giving it 5 starts for flavor, but the cooking time was off quite a bit. My pork chops were not very thick at all and this took about 35 minutes for them to cook, I also turned the heat up to 350 to help move it along. The flavor of the blue cheese, bacon & chives was heavenly! This was easy to make yet was so elegant. We'll have this again. Thank you for a yummy dinner!

Creamy Broccoli Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 29, 2012
Nothing says comfort like a nice warm, creamy bowl of this soup! Definitely add the cheddar cheese - it makes it so rich and comforting. Like others have said, I'm not sure how you would get 5 servings out of this - I made this and 2 of us ate the entire pot at one sitting! We had thick slices of rosemary/olive oil bread warmed and slathered in butter to go with it. Delicious!

Brooke's Best Bombshell Brownies

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2012
This recipe gets 5 stars from me! I've never been able to make a wonderful brownie. Now I know why - I just didn't have the right recipe! These brownies are really, really good. Very rich and very chocolatey! The chips in them just helps to give them even more chocolatey rich goodness. I did what another reviewer suggested and used 1/2 white sugar and 1/2 brown sugar. A perfect fix for a chocolate craving of a chocoholic! Thank you!

Classic Spanish Paella

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2012
Very good! I had recently bought saffron for the first time and was excited to use it. I posted on the Buzz that I was going to make a paella recipe, and Don posted this one to try. It is exactly what I thought paella should be! There is a lot of prep to it, but I believe it was well worth it. Hubby helped me with a lot of the chopping, etc. so it went quickly. I would say it makes 4 very generous servings. I'm going to take some for my lunch tomorrow and we'll finish it up for dinner tomorrow night. Thank you, Don!! This one stays in my recipe box!
