What Fun We Had!!

The days are flying by and Annie the puppy is growing like a weed on fertilizer. It seems every time she wakes from a nap she's grown. She's a busy girl and keeps Suzy on her toes. Or maybe it's on her back, rolled over, having her ears licked clean by Annie. They really do love each other and for that I am thankful. They can keep each other occupied while I play on the computer once in a while. I just have to keep one eye peeled on the door; if Annie heads that way I have to sprint to the door to get her outside.

Friday Kristi and I picked up our three favorite little kids and colored eggs with them.  We also had our annual egg hunt.  They look forward to that every year.  It's getting harder and harder to find good hiding spots for their "grand prize" gifts.  We always make up a little rhyme to give a hint where the prize may be found and stick that hint in one of their plastic eggs they find.

I hosted Easter dinner this year, like usual. Like usual I had a ham and scalloped potatoes. I added a few new sides and appetizers this year to mix things up. I found a bacon broccoli salad with cheese tortellinis on the AR site I decided to try.  It was a huge hit.  I'll be making this again.  I also made a veggie pizza for an appy; the typical chopped up carrots, cauliflower, broccoli and cheddar cheese on a croissant crust.  I wanted some sort of fruit appetizer also, so I found a fruit salsa that really hit the spot.  I didn't make the cinnamon tortillas, though.  I cheated and bought a box of Cinnamon Grahams.  They worked for me.  My parents, Kristal and Jake, my younger sister and her family, and my brother and his friend came.  His friend was a woman he met about 30 years ago in college.  He played basketball and she was a scorekeeper.  She recently moved back to Ohio from Texas and they re-connected.  She is invited to my house anytime - she came bearing a gift for me!  A huge "apothecary" type jar filled with bite-sized candy bars; snickers, twix, three musketeers.. yum. yum. yum.

In addition to the human guests that came to Easter dinner - Annie had two of her brothers also come.  My parents and my sister each have a littermate of hers and if they wanted to stay long enough to eat and visit, the puppies would have to come along as well.  We had a blast watching the three of them play.  They wore themselves out chasing each other and Suzy.  We were lucky and had beautiful weather so they could really run and play outside.  Annie plays with Chip (my parents' puppy) every day when she goes to Grandma & Grandpa's for Doggy Daycare while we work.  Hank jumped right in and joined in their play - the three of them were so darn cute!

I had Monday off work so got to rest up.  First I met an old friend for breakfast and we spent three hours at the local Bob Evans chatting and catching up on things.  Then I spent a few hours reading and enjoying the sunshine.  Annie had a vet appointment where we ran into Hank and my sister because it turned out he also had an appointment at the same time!  When we got home Jon and I packed a cooler and headed out to the lake.  Jon bought a new boat for duck hunting last Fall but it is also a good boat for fishing.  We left Annie home to rest and took Suzy out for the evening with us.  We had chicken salad sandwiches and the remainder of the bacon broccoli salad.  Jon caught enough fish for one nice meal for the two of us.  He also caught a baby muskie.  It was only about 14" long but so cute.  There were many geese nesting all around where we were fishing.  It was a gorgeous evening and a lot of fun to spend it on the water.

The entire four-day weekend I had was filled with fun times with family and friends.  I missed those that couldn't be here - like Steve and my sister and brother-in-law who live out in South Dakota.  Steve had a week-long visitor at his house.  A girl he's friends with from high school flew out to visit and they had a fun time together.

Today while taking a break at work I couldn't help myself.  I counted how many work days left before summer break.  I have 37 more days.  I'm hoping they fly by as fast as the days have been going.  I'm looking forward to summer and our trip out West to visit with Steve.

I just love how your life sounds! You seem to enjoy friends and family along with home and nature. Very well balanced and full of love. I still just love that pic of Suzy you have as your Avatar. Um, now you only have 36 days of school left. But, who's counting? LOL! I always counted the days until school was out too, so don't feel bad about it.

I love it that Annie gets to see her siblings. We had two sisters (Golden Retriever Mix) and they enjoyed each other so much. I loved watching them run around and play. Although mice or squirrels didn't like the be chased by them. Birds. (especially the crows). didn't like to come and use my patio table for a restroom when they were around. Both dogs are gone and I do miss my dogs.

Awww... thanks guys! I do love my life and all that makes it what it is. :) My family and friends are most important to me; and my dogs are part of my family! :)

Lela - Annie and Chip are great pals. I get to my parents' house in the morning before work plenty early enough to get to watch them play a little together. :) Annie & Chip's great aunt and uncle had the same situation - we had Missy, mom and dad had Prince. Only difference was they were chocolate and these little guys are black. We had two golden retrievers years ago. Great dogs as well.

About Me
I've been married for 32 years, and live in Ohio. We have a daughter who is married and lives nearby. Our son graduated from college and moved to South Dakota. He has his own place but still goes to visit my sister and brother-in-law and have dinner with them occasionally. We have a black lab that gets to go duck hunting with dad, 2 cats, 2 cockatiels. We own a Mexican restaurant and are learning alot about the food industry. I love to eat, go camping, read, spend time with family and friends, watch movies, and drink wine; not necessarily in that order.
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake - anything chocolate is fine with me. Seafood, chicken dishes and slow-cooker fare.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My husband and I enjoy cooking together with wine. We pop open a bottle of wine and get cooking. :-)
My cooking triumphs
Whenever I can put together a meal that gets many compliments and leaves the diners satisfied is a triumph in my book! I love to cook meals for family and friends.
My cooking tragedies
When I was first married we had my grandparent's-in-law over for a pot roast dinner. The meat came out great, but the potatoes and carrots were still half raw. My husband's grandfather went to cut his fork into a carrot and it flew off his plate. He looked at me, winked, and said he loved his carrots that way!
