Have you seen my kitchen??

This year I vowed to spend more time in my kitchen and things were moving along nicely on that path.  Then - somehow I lost my kitchen!  If it weren't for the fact that Suzy has her food and water dishes in that room I would not have stepped foot in there in over a week - 8 days to be exact!  That doesn't mean I haven't eaten.  Oh no, not by a long shot!

Back in May (wow - that sounds like a long time ago!) I cooked a meal.  I made a delicious spinach and cheese stuffed chicken breast with Brussels sprouts and mashed potatoes.  It was very good, I plan to make it again some day.  Then, we ate at the restaurant for our usual Friday night dinner, and the weekend brought my niece's graduation party, then graduation and time spent at my sister's house-which translates into eating her food.  Monday is normally a day I cook, but that was not to be this past Monday.  We had some running around to do and we ended up being out when it was dinner time, so we ate at a Chinese buffet.  Tuesday is another night spent at the restaurant at the Cruise-In.  Things were really hopping there this week.  We had 33 cars and a full patio for the DJ.

Wednesday was another night of errands.  We are in the midst of finishing up the repair work from the tree that fell on our house, so we are out getting the last of the materials for the walkway and for the bathroom.  The bathroom was only slightly damaged from the tree but since we are fixing the ceiling and getting a new fan we decided to go all out and also re-do the shower enclosure.  We ate out again on Wednesday.

Thursday I met a couple of my girlfriends for dinner at The English Pub in town.  We had some great pub food and a nice beverage to go with and caught up on all the news since our last gathering several months ago.  These gals work for the same school district I do but in different buildings so we never get to see each other or talk much.  Last year we started getting together every month or so and it has been a blast.  Poor Arlene fractured her foot while doing yard work and was on crutches!

Tonight we will be back at the restaurant.  I'm hoping the path to my kitchen is not so overgrown that I can't find it this weekend.  I'd like to maybe make a pizza tomorrow night.  Jon will be working on the walkway and I have plenty to keep me busy.  For lunch I intend to pull out my Panini press gadget I bought a while back and make some awesome paninis for lunch.  Our local grocery used to sell a rosemary ham that was out of this world.  I tried to buy some but they have discontinued it - the deli worker said not enough people bought it.  So, I bought some Honey ham and I'll just cut some of my rosemary and sprinkle it over the ham.  I need to get back on that cooking/baking track!

Last month we celebrated our first year of involvement with the restaurant. Things are going great with that venture! Our bond with our Mexican family is as strong as ever and business is good.   We have learned a lot about the restaurant business and hope this adventure continues for many years to come.

I hope you have time to find your kitchen this weekend. It does sound like you have been eating well, though!

BN: I always manage to eat well and my waistline shows it. I do feel like spending some time in my kitchen, though, so hopefully it will work out for me.

When you finally do find it, you will have to dust your stove. Good luck!

I know how you feel, I lost my kitchen more then once this past winter. It feels so good when you get back in there, like putting on your favorite sweater. LOL BSM!

BSM: You are so right! At least I haven't had to wash any dishes!

Joey Joan - I found it this morning! I am sitting here sipping a cup of coffee. I had a Keurig in there! LOL

Mother Ann, sounds like you are in a whirlwind of activities. I would like to lose my kitchen because I know it is time to clean my 2 ovens. Happy cooking Mother Ann.

Lela - I am in a whirlwind. And, I'm thinking I may not be cooking much. We found the shower enclosure we wanted so that project has begun. I made lunch at home, but I'm thinking cooking won't be much once again - but oh well.... I'll have the nice, new shower we needed before Steve comes home in July with his girlfriend. :)

So glad the restaurant is doing well! As for the kitchen, good luck finding it!

I miss my kitchen so much when I travel or even day to day when I have weeks like you. When I go over to Maui to work and play, I take all my spices and a few odds and ends so I can do some of my dishes that we love. I usually pack a pastry bag and tip so i can make my favorite island keikis cupcakes. I often wonder what the TSA folks think when they see my odd collection in the bag xray??????

Hubby and I were just talking about you and the restaurant the other day wondering how it was going. I missed my kitchen for several days this week too. I have slacked off my 'adventures' in cooking for the last several months, I think he is missing that too ;)

Cat - I'm happy to report that I found my kitchen this weekend! We had two very good dinners, both using a basil cream sauce recipe. The first was basil cream chicken and last night I used that same sauce and we had shrimp and pasta in it with scallops and asparagus. Delicious!

mauigirl - I can only imagine what they think! When my son recently flew home he brought is rock climbing gear on a carryon and they questioned him for 20 minutes here in Ohio. The Rapid City folks knew what it all was.

Sassy - Good to hear from you! Federico made a new recipe for our June "specials flyer" - pineapple fajitas. It is actually served in the pineapple and is really good. I can't wait for tomorrow night so I can have it again! :)

I have been missing my kitchen since March 1st when my husband got so sick. The girls and I don't have the want to about us to cook. We just snack or pick up something on the way home. Hopefully in a couple of weeks things will change.

char, I hope things change for you, too. And I hope they change for the better.

About Me
I've been married for 33 years, and live in Ohio. We have a daughter who is married and lives nearby. Our son graduated from college and moved to South Dakota. He has his own place but still goes to visit my sister and brother-in-law and have dinner with them occasionally. We have two black labs that get to go duck hunting with dad and two cats. We own a Mexican restaurant and are learning alot about the food industry. I love to eat, go camping, read, spend time with family and friends, watch movies, and drink wine; not necessarily in that order.
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake - anything chocolate is fine with me. Seafood, chicken dishes and slow-cooker fare.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My husband and I enjoy cooking together with wine. We pop open a bottle of wine and get cooking. :-)
My cooking triumphs
Whenever I can put together a meal that gets many compliments and leaves the diners satisfied is a triumph in my book! I love to cook meals for family and friends.
My cooking tragedies
When I was first married we had my grandparent's-in-law over for a pot roast dinner. The meat came out great, but the potatoes and carrots were still half raw. My husband's grandfather went to cut his fork into a carrot and it flew off his plate. He looked at me, winked, and said he loved his carrots that way!
