Hello!  I have returned as a blue-star member.  I let my subscription expire in August, figuring I should be "thrifty" and save some money.  As you can see, that didn't last long....

I found I enjoyed blogging and I missed doing it.  So - here I am - again.  Besides - since yesterday was my birthday - this is my gift to myself. I deserve it, right?  See what one day of pampering can do to a Mom??!!

Yesterday my dear daughter and her husband had a cook-out dinner in celebration of my 49th birthday.  My son even came home from college to join in the festivities!  Also my parents and my brother who was here visiting from Columbus.  My son-in-law grilled hamburgers and hotdogs and my daughter made pasta salad, a veggie tray with dip, devilled eggs and she even had Fritos (My favorite!!).  She also made a delicious chocolate cake with chocolate icing and had my favorite kind of ice cream-chocolate with peanut butter.   Mother Nature didn't cooperate - it rained - but we just moved the party inside.  It takes more than a few raindrops to spoil one of our parties!

It was a great day and I enjoyed every minute of it.  Though I will admit it seemed strange to go off to a picnic and not take a dish to pass; or even to not have the picnic at my house.

My son went back to school last night - he does have a girlfriend now and had to spend some "weekend" time with her.  So - today was just me and hubby hanging out.  Tonight we are having crab legs for dinner.  They were on sale a few weeks back and they've been "kicking" around in the freezer just bugging me ever since.  A nice salad will go great with them, and somebody suggested "green potatoes" off this site for a side.  We'll crack open a bottle of Chardonnay from our Virginia Wine Stock-up Trip we took in July and maybe sit a spell in the hot tub.  A perfect way to end a perfect weekend.

About Me
I've been married for 32 years, and live in Ohio. We have a daughter who is married and lives nearby. Our son graduated from college and moved to South Dakota. He has his own place but still goes to visit my sister and brother-in-law and have dinner with them occasionally. We have a black lab that gets to go duck hunting with dad, 2 cats, 2 cockatiels. We own a Mexican restaurant and are learning alot about the food industry. I love to eat, go camping, read, spend time with family and friends, watch movies, and drink wine; not necessarily in that order.
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake - anything chocolate is fine with me. Seafood, chicken dishes and slow-cooker fare.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My husband and I enjoy cooking together with wine. We pop open a bottle of wine and get cooking. :-)
My cooking triumphs
Whenever I can put together a meal that gets many compliments and leaves the diners satisfied is a triumph in my book! I love to cook meals for family and friends.
My cooking tragedies
When I was first married we had my grandparent's-in-law over for a pot roast dinner. The meat came out great, but the potatoes and carrots were still half raw. My husband's grandfather went to cut his fork into a carrot and it flew off his plate. He looked at me, winked, and said he loved his carrots that way!
