Seafood - Mmmm Good!

I just finished reading my e-mail from our nearby seafood store.  It's a good half hour from home, but less than 15 minutes from work.  I think that Friday will be a "seafood fest" here for dinner.  Last week I went there and got a couple soft-shell live Maryland Bluecrabs to go in our cioppino.

Well - this week they have live Maryland bluecrabs - the hard shell ones.  Now those I can eat!  And, eat I will.  Lobsters are also on sale for $8.50/lb.  That's about $2.00/lb cheaper than normal for around here.  I'll grab a few oysters, a few clams, some shrimp, maybe I'll make some clam chowder and salad, and we'll have a feast!  Add to that a bottle of wine - maybe a pinot grigio - or two.  I might make some lemon bars for dessert....

I have a very good friend who I went to business college with close to 30 years ago.  We've remained friends even though she has moved from Ohio (where I live) to Michigan, to Pennsylvania and now she lives in Florida.  Her and her husband and Jon and I traditionally have a "seafood fest" dinner whenever we get together.  The four of us go in the kitchen and everyone digs in and helps prepare the meal.  We have so much fun, and we always eat and drink way too much - but we don't get to do it very often, so what the heck. Right?  I know I'll be thinking of her on Friday....

I hear tell that they're expecting a bumper crop of crabs in the Chesapeake this season, yipee! Maybe those ridiculous prices will come back down to earth!

Dragonfly - I'll be sure to call my friend. She'll be sooo jealous, even though she lives right near the gulf they don't do seafood fests as much as we do. I think we're the bigger seafood lovers! Wyattdogster - let's hope there is a bumper crop of crabs! I just love those little buggers and cheaper is better!

About Me
I've been married for 33 years, and live in Ohio. We have a daughter who is married and lives nearby. Our son graduated from college and moved to South Dakota. He has his own place but still goes to visit my sister and brother-in-law and have dinner with them occasionally. We have two black labs that get to go duck hunting with dad and two cats. We own a Mexican restaurant and are learning alot about the food industry. I love to eat, go camping, read, spend time with family and friends, watch movies, and drink wine; not necessarily in that order.
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake - anything chocolate is fine with me. Seafood, chicken dishes and slow-cooker fare.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My husband and I enjoy cooking together with wine. We pop open a bottle of wine and get cooking. :-)
My cooking triumphs
Whenever I can put together a meal that gets many compliments and leaves the diners satisfied is a triumph in my book! I love to cook meals for family and friends.
My cooking tragedies
When I was first married we had my grandparent's-in-law over for a pot roast dinner. The meat came out great, but the potatoes and carrots were still half raw. My husband's grandfather went to cut his fork into a carrot and it flew off his plate. He looked at me, winked, and said he loved his carrots that way!
