Snow day......

Hi!  Well... I went and did it.  I became a supporting member!  I've been lurking around on AR and trying to decide if I wanted to "go public".  The deciding factor - revenge on my hubby!  LOL.  His birthday is coming up and he has to renew his plates on his truck.  So, he decides to splurge and get DU (Ducks Unlimited) plates and personalized as well.  This little splurge is going to cost him  $100 or so to get his plates for the year.  Kinda made me mad - who spends that kind of money??  Not me!  So, while I'm sitting home from work today due to a snow day (Hurray!!) I decide I'm gonna go for it and get my blue star.

So, here I am. Now - what exactly do I write about that people might actually read and comment on??    Hopefully that will come to me.  In the meantime - I'll just let my mind wander; it's good at that.  I work at a school (I'm a secretary in the Guidance Office of the high school).  I love it. The kids keep me young now that my own have flown the coop.  Today I got up at my usual time, peeked outside hoping to see a foot of snow (just so I could have a snow day) and was disappointed.  So, I let the dogs out and started getting their breakfast ready when the phone rang.  Yes!!  I got my snow day after all.  Apparently the roads were very icy.  I live on a dead end street that I can't see from my house so I had no idea what it was like in the "real world".

After enjoying my coffee I decided that today would be devoted to me.  I got on AR and searched for a good chocolate cake recipe.  I ended up making a sour cream chocolate cake.  It's cooling right now, but I'm not sure it'll satisfy my chocolate cravings.  It doesn't look very "chocolate".  We'll see.

So - this is my first attempt at a blog.  I'm going to sign off for now - my tea kettle is calling me.  It's the perfect afternoon for a cup of hot tea while I try to figure out what to have for dinner.  Bye for now!!

Hi 1gdcowgrl! I hope it's well-spent money! I think it's better spent than what my hubby just blew $100 on!!

Nice blog Mother Ann. Welcome to the blue side. I have posted a few blogs, not about cooking but about my family. If people read and enjoy them, that is wonderful, however, I have found I just enjoy putting down my thoughts and expressing my feelings. There is just something very soothing about it. Now that I have written about all my family members I am going to have to get creative... or maybe just babble on and on.....and on! :)

Thank you everyone for welcoming me into the "Fold". Lynda - I'll look at it like you do -it'll be great therapy for me and soothing to the soul. Should anyone else choose to take a minute and read my babbling, I hope they enjoy. If they don't, that's OK, too!

Mother Ann, you have an endless supply of topics if you work in a school. There are millions of stories there just waiting to be told. Glad you got the snow day today and nice start to the world of blogging.

About Me
I've been married for 33 years, and live in Ohio. We have a daughter who is married and lives nearby. Our son graduated from college and moved to South Dakota. He has his own place but still goes to visit my sister and brother-in-law and have dinner with them occasionally. We have two black labs that get to go duck hunting with dad and two cats. We own a Mexican restaurant and are learning alot about the food industry. I love to eat, go camping, read, spend time with family and friends, watch movies, and drink wine; not necessarily in that order.
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake - anything chocolate is fine with me. Seafood, chicken dishes and slow-cooker fare.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My husband and I enjoy cooking together with wine. We pop open a bottle of wine and get cooking. :-)
My cooking triumphs
Whenever I can put together a meal that gets many compliments and leaves the diners satisfied is a triumph in my book! I love to cook meals for family and friends.
My cooking tragedies
When I was first married we had my grandparent's-in-law over for a pot roast dinner. The meat came out great, but the potatoes and carrots were still half raw. My husband's grandfather went to cut his fork into a carrot and it flew off his plate. He looked at me, winked, and said he loved his carrots that way!
