I never was much of a tequila fan.  I didn't even know it was a key ingredient to those yummy frozen concoctions I loved called margaritas.  Then - we became involved with a Mexican restaurant and suddenly I know it's what goes in a margarita.  And I know how to do a proper shot of tequila. … MORE

It seems we barely get one birthday over and celebrated and it's time for yet another!  In July we celebrated Federico's birthday.  He chose spaghetti and meatballs for his dinner and a tres leches cake.  I've become quite a pro at the tres leches cakes - I almost know how to make them… MORE

What do you do with pears besides just eat them?  The answer to that question depends on who (or rather... what) you are.  When we moved into our house 27 years ago we were excited to have room to plant a few fruit trees.  We planted an apple tree, cherry tree and a pear tree.  Sad to say,… MORE

Steak San Morco - sounds really fancy to me.  It's not - but it is absolutely delicious!  And... best of all - I threw it in the crock pot this morning and headed out the door to work. I've been making this recipe for years. It started out as a go-to recipe for all the venison I had in my… MORE

We just got back from our last summer trip to the Shenandoah National Park in Virginia.  We spent nine days camping and it was a blast.  Anything that could go right, went right.  Anything that could have gone wrong, stayed home.   My last blog was all about how Kristal and I "trained" for… MORE

In just a little over a week we head to the mountains of the Shenandoah National Park in Virginia.  We go every year - for camping, hiking, and winery-hopping.  Last year Kristal drove down mid-way through our stay to join us in our fun.  She had been there before and even though her hubby… MORE

It has rained just about every day for the past 10 days at least a little bit.  But, the sun has been shining brightly in my heart every day for the past 10 days constantly.  The sun is currently shining outside, but there is a cloud in my heart and tears in my eyes.   My son, Steve, has been… MORE

When we go on vacations we don't rest much.  Each day is filled with fun things to do and lots of good food.  Good food that other people prepare for us.  This year was no different. Very early last Saturday morning we headed for the beach.  Our group consisted of nine people:  Us, daughter… MORE

This year I vowed to spend more time in my kitchen and things were moving along nicely on that path.  Then - somehow I lost my kitchen!  If it weren't for the fact that Suzy has her food and water dishes in that room I would not have stepped foot in there in over a week - 8 days to be exact! … MORE

I was a late-bloomer when it came to cooking and baking.  I was a tomboy and had no interest, or time, for such things.  I also didn't like many things so had no reason to make new recipes.  But, once I overcame my dislike of most foods I became very interested in cooking.  I have noticed… MORE

About Me
I've been married for 32 years, and live in Ohio. We have a daughter who is married and lives nearby. Our son graduated from college and moved to South Dakota. He has his own place but still goes to visit my sister and brother-in-law and have dinner with them occasionally. We have a black lab that gets to go duck hunting with dad, 2 cats, 2 cockatiels. We own a Mexican restaurant and are learning alot about the food industry. I love to eat, go camping, read, spend time with family and friends, watch movies, and drink wine; not necessarily in that order.
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake - anything chocolate is fine with me. Seafood, chicken dishes and slow-cooker fare.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My husband and I enjoy cooking together with wine. We pop open a bottle of wine and get cooking. :-)
My cooking triumphs
Whenever I can put together a meal that gets many compliments and leaves the diners satisfied is a triumph in my book! I love to cook meals for family and friends.
My cooking tragedies
When I was first married we had my grandparent's-in-law over for a pot roast dinner. The meat came out great, but the potatoes and carrots were still half raw. My husband's grandfather went to cut his fork into a carrot and it flew off his plate. He looked at me, winked, and said he loved his carrots that way!
