Hubby and I had a busy weekend - it was a party from Friday until today!  Friday evening we went to our favorite Mexican restaurant our friends own - Acapulco Mexican Grill.  We weren't planning on partying.  We were just going to eat and see if we could "borrow" our adopted  Mexican… MORE

Friday night was a fun, educational night out for Jon and me.  My parents had tickets to see Cesar Millan.  Yes, Cesar the Dog Whisperer.  They asked us to go with them.  I'm not a TV watcher so I had never seen any of the shows, but I have heard of the Dog Whisperer.  Who hasn't?   He was at… MORE

Our grocery store advertised they were having a two-day seafood sale, on Friday and Saturday.  One thing we both love is seafood - all kinds.  I looked through the sale ad and saw they had some awesome deals on shrimp, crab, crab legs, scallops, etc., etc.  I couldn't wait for the work day to… MORE

Today was a rare day in our household.  No obligations whatsoever.  Very seldom do we get a day where there is nothing to do.  What would you do on a day like that?  We decided to head up to Cleveland and visit the West Side Market.  We've been there a few times and after each visit we pick… MORE

About a month ago Steve graduated from college earning a degree in Criminal Justice.  He's my adventurous kid - he likes to have fun.  I think he has had all the "fun" he can take these past couple days.  For some background: I have a sister and brother-in-law in South Dakota (we live in… MORE

Yesterday was our chocolate lab, Missy's, birthday.  She's been a part of this family for 13 years, long retired from the marsh.  Suzy, our black lab, joined us three years ago to take over the hunting/retrieving job that Missy had done so well for ten years.  Suzy is coming along nicely and… MORE

Being with those you love is the best way to end one year and begin another in my opinion.  The Christmas Holidays were spent in a marathon session of eating and laughing with my family members.  It all started on December 23rd.  My brother drove up to spend the holidays here so I… MORE

In August of 2007 we dropped our son, Steve, off at Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea.  He was going there to play baseball.  And also to get a college education.  In that order, in his mind.  He was 18 and excited to be taking this first giant leap into adulthood!   Things were pretty quiet… MORE

Last night was our annual Christmas Dinner with a couple that are easily our best friends, Al and Lisa.  Nine years ago we had them over for dinner in December for a "fancy" meal of cornish hens.  At that meal we decided to have an annual dinner, taking turns being the host.   Over the years… MORE

Two summers ago my son won a Grand Prize chock full of waterfowl hunting gear, clothing, guided hunting trips, even a small marsh boat.  He was the perfect winner for this, being a 20 year old college kid that loves to hunt but didn't own any of his own equipment save for the gun and a coat. … MORE

About Me
I've been married for 32 years, and live in Ohio. We have a daughter who is married and lives nearby. Our son graduated from college and moved to South Dakota. He has his own place but still goes to visit my sister and brother-in-law and have dinner with them occasionally. We have a black lab that gets to go duck hunting with dad, 2 cats, 2 cockatiels. We own a Mexican restaurant and are learning alot about the food industry. I love to eat, go camping, read, spend time with family and friends, watch movies, and drink wine; not necessarily in that order.
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake - anything chocolate is fine with me. Seafood, chicken dishes and slow-cooker fare.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My husband and I enjoy cooking together with wine. We pop open a bottle of wine and get cooking. :-)
My cooking triumphs
Whenever I can put together a meal that gets many compliments and leaves the diners satisfied is a triumph in my book! I love to cook meals for family and friends.
My cooking tragedies
When I was first married we had my grandparent's-in-law over for a pot roast dinner. The meat came out great, but the potatoes and carrots were still half raw. My husband's grandfather went to cut his fork into a carrot and it flew off his plate. He looked at me, winked, and said he loved his carrots that way!
