Creamy Blueberry Pie

Reviewed: Jul. 19, 2014
Blueberries are abundant and inexpensive this year and before I ran out of room in my freezer I decided to make a pie. I was going to make a regular blueberry pie until I saw this recipe and gave it a try. I made it as written, no substitutes, additions, or deletions, and it is FABULOUS! I look forward to using cherries or peaches next time.

Tomato Pork Loin Chops

Reviewed: Mar. 15, 2012
This recipe was excellent! I followed it to the letter and wouldn't change a thing. Moist pork, spicy sauce, served over rice-dinner was a hit! I noticed that a lot of reviewers left the fennel out, a mistake in my opinion-it really adds to the flavor of the sauce.

Simple and Delicious Sponge Cake

Reviewed: Oct. 31, 2011
It seemed too simple to be true-and it was. Not a sponge cake, not quite shortcake, and much too salty.

Bishop's Bread I

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2011
Maybe it's just me, but I found this to be very dry. I wrapped it up and waited a day before trying it as the recipe suggests, but I just didn't care for it.

Cherry Spice Loaf

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2011
I was looking for a pretty tea bread for the Christmas holidays. I made this as written with one exception-I left the raisins out, seemed like overkill to me. This is a colorful, moist loaf, perfect for gift-giving. My only question is: why call it Cherry SPICE Loaf? Not a lick of spice in this recipe!

Billy Pudding for Davey

Reviewed: Feb. 27, 2011
I wanted to make this because I love dates and tapioca. I waited until reviews appeared so I was aware of problems and pitfalls others were experiencing. I made this pudding today, and even though the ingredient list led me to believe that I would love this, I don't. A little sweeter than I like, and a bit rubbery. However, it was a fun experiment for a Sunday morning.

Red Pepper Biscuits

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2011
Easy to make and a welcome change from bland plain biscuits. I made them as written, but next time I'll turn up the heat a bit and double the red pepper.

Very Easy Mushroom Barley Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2011
I am making my second batch of this excellent soup as I type this. Easy to make and freezes very well. While good as it stands, it certainly lends itself to additions-next time I'll add some lamb to the mix.

Rick's Special Buttercream Frosting

Reviewed: Sep. 12, 2010
This is now the only buttercream I will make. As written or made with half butter, half shortening, the taste and texture is excellent! Standard buttercream is really too sweet and never makes enough for a double layer cake. This recipe is so generous that I have some left to spread on graham crackers as a snack-try it! Thanks Rick, you made my day!

Absolutely Best Brownies

Reviewed: Sep. 6, 2010
Way too salty. Self-rising flour already has salt in it, so why the extra salt?

Date Loaf Cake

Reviewed: Aug. 27, 2010
I truly don't see why everyone loves this-sludgy and pretty much tasteless except for the dates. I tried it because I had a big tub of dates and self-rising flour left over from another recipe, but this one is NOT going in my file.

Honey Butter Zucchini Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 5, 2010
I made this AS WRITTEN-no substitutes or omissions. Very rich and moist, not too sweet, and I like the fact that it has honey in it. A great way to use up all that summer zucchini.

Soft Sugar Cookies IV

Reviewed: Jul. 26, 2010
I love sugar cookies, but I hate rolling them out. I am so glad I tried this recipe-soft, buttery, and so easy to make. I made them as written, but I will try some variations around the Christmas holidays. Excellent cookie!

Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie

Reviewed: Jul. 13, 2010
A very good chocolate ship cookie, but not chewy. Perhaps refrigeration would have helped, but no such direction in the recipe. In the end, a big fat Tollhouse cookie.

Pistachio Cake III

Reviewed: Apr. 8, 2010
I saw this recipe too late for Saint Patrick's Day, but I needed something for Easter. The green coloring appealed to me, so I made it as written, and I was very pleased with the taste and texture. This is a very moist cake, and with a little pink and yellow icing it was the perfect spring dessert.

Ricotta Cookies II

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2009
I made these today and I can't stay away from them! This is an adult cookie in my opinion- delicate, delicious, subtle almond flavor. I didn't roll them into balls, just treated the dough like a drop cookie. Red and green edible glitter over the glaze made these perfect for Christmas!

Awesome and Easy Creamy Corn Casserole

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2009
I didn't want to make this on Thanksgiving as I have had only bad experiences trying something for the first time on a holiday-now I wish I had! I made this the day after to go with turkey leftovers, and it was great! Simple, creamy, and delicious-the perfecdt side dish.

Ultimate Cranberry Pudding Cake

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2009
I made this as a practice run for the holidays-everyone loved it! The cake was moist and so pretty with the cranberries, but the real star was the butter sauce. This one goes in the holiday file!
