Though my mother only cooked from a box, my grandmother showed me her love for cooking. My Polish grandmother cooked for my Italian grandfather every night. The best times with my extended family were shared over Christmas raviolis and smelts.
My favorite things to cook
I love anything that makes people happy. The broiled tilapia dish I keep on hand has turned many fish haters into lovers. Baking over the holidays is even more fun.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Christmas Eve we had shrimp, smelts, cod, and calamari depending on the economic times. On Christmas Day grandma had raviolis made for 25 people coming in and out of her house all day.
My cooking triumphs
I have combined pumpkin pie recipes over the years and come up with a perfect blend. The penne rustica dish at one of my favorite restaurants took several tries to get right but I think I've got it down just right. And I've got a blend for a Giordino sauce that I call Jillordino.
My cooking tragedies
I still can't master grilling (need more practice). I still burn things easily so I really have to remember to keep the stove on low & slowly increase heat. From some reason I can't remember, hotter does not mean faster--it only means burnt!
