My favorite things to cook
i don't know yet; i am just starting out. however, once i learn what my favorite is, i'll be sure to update. until now, i suppose my favorite thing to cook has been simply heating up a can of Campbell's New England clam chowder or Chef Boyardee mini-ravioli. i am pretty good at making those Martha White "just add milk!" muffins, too - blueberry of course!
My favorite family cooking traditions
i was always a tomboy; i stayed out of the kitchen and preferred sculpting mudpies and gathering ivy salad on a frisbee to the sticky business of making real food. i was always scared to burn myself on the oven ... still am actually. my 'lil bro didn't mind helping Mom in the kitchen. She doesn't like to cook either, but she does it well. my mama makes THE best ole fashioned sugar cookies, homestyle mac&cheese, shepherd's pie, and chicken 'n dumplins ever!
My cooking triumphs
so far i have only made one "Real" meal: shepherd's pie. i was very pleased, although the recipe stated it was a thirty minute meal (yeh right Rachel Ray, if you have ten GoGoGadget arms and can do EVerything at once)! it took me more like two and a half hours, but it turned out nicely, especially considering i modified the recipe a bit to make it even yummier (DUCK 'cos my head is swelling LOL)! and my sweet husband was surprised and delighted to come home to a hot and hearty meal!
also, one time i wanted to make dinner but we had NO groceries: only five eggs, a pkg of frozen spinach, ONE hotdog, and a 'lil bit of shredded cheese. i threw it all in a wok and scrambled it up together; holy cow it was awesome! even Brian loved it - i couldn't believe it! LOL beginner's luck i imagine ... (:D)
My cooking tragedies
salt! tried to make some garlic bread one night: TOO SALTY! a week or so later, thought i'd marinate some steaks for grilling ... and here i thought one had to soak the steaks in a marinade for hours to get a good flavor. it was only thirty minutes and WOW! WAY TOO SALTY! c'est la vie, i suppose. win some, lose some, but always always learn some!
