Sesame Pasta Chicken Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 5, 2001
We had a contest at our family reunion for the best salad. I thought I would win with this one, but it was gone before the judges could sample it! I love the sesame flavor and the hint of sweetness. I wouldn't change a thing.

Three Sisters Soup

Reviewed: Sep. 26, 2007
Great soup! I sauteed a little garlic an onion to put in it but left everythinng else as-is. I have a hard time getting my husband to eat vegetables but he loved this soup.

Grilled BBQ Romaine Lettuce

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2007
My first impression when I read this recipe was - "Interesting, but warm lettuce?" Well - I like to experiment so I tried it. Not awful, but it is still warm lettuce. Imagine the pieces of lettuce that fall off your fast food hamburger. Thanks what the texture is like.

Spinach, Potato, and Nutmeg Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2007
The flavors were good - don't overdo the nutmeg. I think I overblended it - I would have probably liked it better if it were chunkier.

Three-Cheese Deviled Eggs

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2007
I wasn't brave enough to add the warm velveta to the egg mixture so I added shredded cheddar instead. I also only used 2 cups of mayo instead of 3 (I made 2 dozen eggs). Two cups was plenty. These eggs turned out great! I'm going to make them again with the velveta this time!

Green Grog

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2007
It was a little sweet so I added more soda. I also added a little dry ice for effect. It turned out to be a great halloween drink - everyone loved it!

Spicy Pear Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 6, 2007
Great cookies. I used only 1/2 cup butter omitted the nuts and added an additional, very ripe pear. They turned out perfectly.

Thai Pumpkin Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2007
With all of the delicious spices in this soup, I was excited to taste it. I used dried lemongrass instead of fresh - that was a mistake. The bits of lemongrass were tough to chew and didn't blend in well. I used reduced fat coconut milk and I ended up not tasting any coconut flavor at all. Overall the flavor was dull. I can't help but think I did something wrong. Too much canned pumpkin, maybe. I'm not sure but with enough salt, my husband and I ate it anyway.

Tangy Slow Cooker Pork Roast

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2007
The sauce was delicious - one tip I have though is to make sure your roast is completely covered with the sauce. I used a crockpot that was too big and the exposed meat ended up drying out. I will make this again, but make sure to either double the sauce or use a smaller crock pot. Overall this was a good easy recipe.

Depression Era Corn Chowder

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2007
Very good soup. I added a bunch of garlic and some chicken. Based on the comments from others that it was watery, I made a roux and tried to thicken it up a bit. It helped a little, but if you want it really creamy I'd use half and half. (I used skim to help with calories.) Delicious, simple soup.

Gramma Bertha's Banana Cake

Reviewed: Jul. 13, 2009
So - I made a measuring mistake and added 6 eggs (used egg beaters) instead of 4 but it still came out great! I frosted it with a whipped cream topping and sprinkled some walnuts on top. It was beautiful and delicious. Not too much like banana bread - had a nice cake texture. I'm going to try it again with splenda next time to see if I can make it even more low cal. Thanks for the recipe!

Slow Cooker Creamed Corn

Reviewed: Jul. 13, 2009
If I die and go to heaven... this is what they will serve. I put some chopped jalapenos in it because I couldn't resist. It was devine....not pretty - it tends to separate but when I almost started a fight over the leftovers I knew it was a hit.

Schmag Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 13, 2009
Lots of chopping but worth it. We have peaches in season so I used some firm peaches instead of the pears and it was great. The cilantro was a really nice kick. This is such a light summery salad - I'll make it again.

Caribbean Crabmeat Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 13, 2009
Beautiful and delicious. I used mini bowties and probably would have gone with a more "sturdy" pasta like penne or rotini as suggested. Loved the zing of the jalapeno. It got better the longer it sat. I'm looking forward to having leftovers all week for lunch!

Pistachio Fluff Fruit Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 8, 2009
I needed something easy for a camping family reuinion. This was definately easy - open the cans - put them in - done! I used while chocolate pudding vs. pistachio to satisfy my sweet husband and it still turned out good. Nothing spectacular but good.

Double Dare Peaches

Reviewed: Aug. 8, 2009
WOOOOHOO! I suspected this might be too hot for many of the people I was serving it for, but it really wasn't. Besides the ice cream that helps cool it off, the heat is just a little end note and doesn't overwhelm the peaches. I recommend making sure you don't dice the peppers too small. Maybe just chop them in quarters. The butter gets a little frothy and it can be hard to find the peppers to take them out. You wouldn't want someone to come across one on accident! YIKES! Everyone loved it. GREAT unique recipe. I'll definitely do this one again!

Watermelon and Strawberry Lemonade

Wow this was good. I didn't strain it either. I did add some strawberry vodka and was EXTREMELY pleased with the outcome. Even my husband who doesn't drink "girly" drinks hand some!

Quinoa Pilaf

Very good! I kept the recipe pretty much intact - I added some spinach and toasted the walnuts which gave it the most delicious nutty flavor! YUM! I'm looking forward to eating this all week for lunch!
