Gluehwein

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2010
we quartered this recipe (just used one bottle of wine) and it tasted amazing! my husband swears it's just like he remembers from his childhood in Germany (he says he just got little tastes... :P)

Crispy Rosemary Chicken and Fries

Reviewed: Aug. 14, 2012
This was good! I used baking potatoes and cut them into chunks. I took the chicken out with about 15 minutes left and just let the potatoes roast for the rest of the time. I used dried herbs and had no problems-pretty darn good!

Grilled Cheese Sandwich

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2009
Thanks for laying the steps out ;) I've never made grilled cheese before, and it went really well. The cheddar made for a rich-tasting sandwich. Just make sure you let the butter sit out for a while before trying to put it on bread-otherwise, it will be too cold and will tear the bread :P

Lighter Banana Muffins

Reviewed: Jun. 2, 2011
I liked this recipe because it had simple ingredients. I made half because I only had 2 bananas. I also used 1/2 wheat flour and 1/2 white flour and added a dash of nutmeg. It was so thick I couldn't even stir in all the flour, so I added almost 1/2 cup of milk to get it to the right consistency. I used a greased muffin pan (no wasteful paper liners) and cooked for 18 minutes-it made 6 large muffins and they popped right out! The taste was good, but for some reason they had a strange smell...maybe it was the nutmeg. I will definitely make this again!

Baked Brie in Puff Pastry

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2010
Remember to thaw your puff pastry before you use it! I tried thawing it in the microwave and it ended up messy, but still tasted delicious. I added seedless raspberry preserves and then the almonds. I also brushed an egg white over the puff pastry before I cooked it-just don't use all of it if you don't need it-it will end up tasting slightly egg-y! otherwise, a delicious recipe that everyone was raving about :)

Super Simple Salmon

Reviewed: Feb. 22, 2012
This was so easy and tasty. I used chopped garlic and sauteed it with the butter for a few minutes before adding the salmon. I left out the salt, so it was just basil. 5 minutes per side was too long on medium heat. Squeezing the lemon wedges over each piece absolutely made the dish!

Acorn Squash

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2011
this was easy and good-but putting the two halves on top of each other at the end made a big mess and left one half less tasty than the other-I wonder if it would work just as well just leaving them open side up?

Clark Gable Pancakes

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2011
these pancakes were a little strange...they cooked to a crisp on the outside but were uncooked on the inside. once I got them mostly fully cooked, my husband still didn't love the texture. and good thing I didn't half the recipe-I only got 5 normal-sized pancakes out of the recipe! I can't imagine how small you'd have to make them to get 10 pancakes. the taste was pretty good, though-I used 1.5 Tbsp baking powder, used 1/4 cup whole wheat flour, and added 1 tsp vanilla, 1 Tbsp sugar, and some cinnamon.

Peanut Butter Kiss Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2010
These were pretty good. They're made with sugar, so everyone should have known what they were getting into with regard to sweetness and texture :P I used the 3 kinds of sugar and organic natural peanut butter. I baked for 8 minutes, then added the kisses, then baked for 2 more minutes. I let them cool/harden for 2 minutes before putting them on a wire rack. They weren't extremely peanutty, but they were sweet easy to make. Next time I might try the more nutritious (and more complicated) version just to see what the difference is.

Applesauce

Reviewed: Oct. 25, 2010
great, easy recipe! I also found that my applesauce was already sweet-but they were slightly tart, so I added just 2 tbsp of sugar. delicious while warm, kind of weird sour taste the 2nd day, but that went away and it has lasted well in the fridge :) I hope I never have to buy jarred applesauce again.

Mushroom Pie

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2011
This was okay. I only had 1/2 a package of puff pastry, so I filled it and folded over the edges. I used bacon cubes and didn't brush the top with egg (there wasn't much of a top...). It ended up a bit runny, but had a rich flavor.

Chocolate Chip Cheesecake I

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2011
This turned out great! I chopped up about 1.5 cups of dark chocolate into chunks. Because they were in various sizes, I did not use the flour to coat them. I did put about half of the chocolate into the batter and half on top. I think it baked just fine just on the oven rack, but it did have cracks on top-but like someone else said, they were pretty much covered up by the chocolate chunks. Someday I may try a water bath if I need a smooth top, but this worked great. I made it a day a head so it would have plenty of time to chill. Everyone LOVED it-we ate 2/3 in one day :P It was nice and thick and cream cheesy but chocolately too-a wonderful mix! I will definitely make this again :)

Fajita Marinade I

Reviewed: May 6, 2011
this was really easy and smelled good, but some of the flavor was lost by the time it cooked. my husband would have preferred it to be more spicy and he mentioned he wouldn't have used olive oil.

Beer Brats

Reviewed: Oct. 25, 2010
I live in germany and was looking for a basic bratwurst recipe-this one worked great, even without a grill. I made them twice (half each time)-the second time I only added half the red pepper flakes and I was still crying as I ate :P since we don't have a grill, we just heated some butter in a cast iron pan on the stove while the brats were boiling, then put them in the pan, turning once-they needed less time than a grill would. delicious, but spicy!

Authentic Chinese Egg Rolls (from a Chinese person)

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2013
Fantastic. Delicious. And such a fun project. I used the Chinese Pork Tenderloin recipe on this site. My husband doesn't love eggs, so we left out that part. I used the smallest cabbage I could find, 1 large carrot, and left out the mushrooms and MSG. This recipe only used 1/2 a package of wrappers, so I had to throw the rest away :( Also, the package said to use a mixture of flour & water to seal the egg rolls, so I did that instead of using the egg white. And 4 cups of oil isn't really necessary-just use enough to cook about 4 egg rolls at once. These were so tasty (especially with a homemade sweet & sour sauce on the side) and leftovers were easily re-crisped in the oven :)

Coleslaw

Reviewed: Dec. 10, 2012
This wasn't like normal coleslaw, so don't go into it thinking it will taste the same! But it had an interesting flavor and went well with ribs and baked beans. I used apple cider vinegar and about half the amount of oil (I used sunflower oil) and half the amount of sugar. I wish I could have left out the sugar altogether, but it was necessary to counter the tartness of the vinegar. Altogether a good recipe for non-mayo-eating people who like BBQ :)

Best Steak Marinade in Existence

Reviewed: May 18, 2012
This was pretty good. I had no idea how much I would need for the meat I made...guess I should have read the recipe better :P So next time I'll half the recipe for sure. The only change I made was to use 1/8 tsp cayenne instead of hot sauce. I didn't blend, just mixed together. Then I let it sit in the fridge for about 4 hours.

Spicy Garlic Salmon

Reviewed: May 9, 2012
This was very good. I used Dijon mustard (all I had) and red chile rings and it didn't really make a paste-more of a sauce, which was fine. They cooked for about 15 minutes and were spicy (I gave the chile rings to my husband and he loved it) and delicious. The foil in the baking pan was a genius idea-clean-up was so easy! I will definitely make this again.

Lime-Marinated Grilled Salmon

Reviewed: May 6, 2012
This was tasty. I added extra lime juice (about 1/3 cup total) because people recommended it...and it seemed to be too much. I marinated for 1.5 hours and then broiled the fish.

White Bean Breakfast

Reviewed: Feb. 24, 2012
I doubled this for 2 people because we left out the toast. I didn't have jalapenos, so I added some cayenne. I also left out the cheese. It was tasty and filling. The lemon on the beans changed the entire flavor (for the better!)
