Cream Soup Base

Reviewed: Sep. 7, 2011
I just made this to use in "southwest white chicken chili" found on this site. I haven't made the chili yet, but I wanted to say this soup base is going to be used in many of my recipes. It is a great base to use for many soups and casseroles! Thanks for a great alternative to canned soup. Oh, almost forgot to mention, I read the ingredients of a can of cream of chicken and it had garlic and onion powder, so I added a little sprinkle of each. Delicious!

Bob's Stuffed Banana Peppers

Reviewed: Aug. 1, 2011
This is a great recipe. I had to change a couple things though. I didn't have parm, so I diced some moz and added it to the filling. I used a jar of (pretty bland) pasta sauce instead of the tomato sauce & crushed tomatoes, but I still used the onion, celery, diced pepper & spices. I also topped with sliced moz the last few minutes of baking. I served them with pasta, italian bread & a salad. My husband liked them so much, he said he was going to eat them all! I didn't let him, of course ;)

Annie's Fruit Salsa and Cinnamon Chips

Reviewed: Aug. 1, 2011
This stuff is great! I used orange marmalade and cut back on the sugar because my fruit was already sweet. I didn't really like the chips in this recipe, so I used Stacy's cinnamon pita chips. YUM!!!

Old-Fashioned Lemonade

Reviewed: Aug. 1, 2011
Very good basic lemonade. I did make one minor change. I dissolved the sugar in 1c. water on the stove, let it cool & added to the remaining 5 cups of water, lemon juice & ice in a pitcher. Easy as can be and really refreshing on a hot day.

Bacon Wrapped Brown Sugar Smokies Dipping Sauce

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2012
I used KC masterpiece original bbq sauce and miracle whip (I don't buy real mayo). It was sweet and smokey. Very good sauce. Thanks for the recipe!

Quick and Easy Brownies

Reviewed: Mar. 10, 2011
I was hungry for brownies and decided to try a new recipe, so I picked this one. Well, I'm sorry to say my son and I did not like these at all. The texture was bad and the taste was not any better. I bake bread, cakes, bagels, cookies, etc. from scratch at least twice a week, so baking is nothing new to me, but I'd honestly rather eat brownies from a mix than bake these again. Sorry.

Chicken Fried Chicken

Reviewed: Mar. 10, 2011
Yum! The coating on this chicken is great as is. I wouldn't change a thing about it. I did pound the thicker part of the chicken breast so it was an even thickness throughout. It cooked quickly & evenly. Served with old fashioned peppered gravy, the whole family really liked it. I have made it twice so far, and will be making it often.

Broccoli Chicken Delight

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2011
I've been making this casserole for years and it's great. I'm actually making it for dinner right now! The only difference in my recipe is that I use 1 cream of chicken & 1 cream of celery soup and miracle whip instead of mayonnaise. Believe me, it's wonderful. If you're going to make this, don't leave out the curry (or the mayo). That's what makes this recipe what it is! If you're only using cream of chicken soup & leaving out everything else, then you're just making chicken with soup on top! I don't put cheese on top though, I hate it when recipes that have no cheese in them are topped with cheese. Maybe it's just me, but... Someone mentioned this being too soupy. I serve mine over mashed potatoes, but you can also add a thin layer of instant rice before pouring the soup mixture on and it will soak up some of the sauce and make it a meal in one! EDIT: forgot to mention that it is way better to use fresh broccoli that has been steamed a little first, or at least use frozen broccoli florets. the frozen chopped broccoli is nothing but hard nasty pieces.

Hamburger Steak with Onions and Gravy

Reviewed: Jan. 24, 2011
I gave this recipe 5 stars even though I did make a couple minor changes. I made my own fresh bread crumbs & didn't use the sherry or seasoned salt in the gravy. I did however make the patties as written. I also doubled the flour & broth for more gravy. It was a hit with my son, so this one's a keeper!

Award Winning Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Aug. 1, 2011
Great recipe as is! What else can I say?...If these didn't turn out delicious, you did something wrong! EDIT: I've baked these cookies a few times now, my kids, sister, nieces & nephews love these cookies. I've been reading through the reviews and can't believe some of them... First of all, if the recipe says to add the INSTANT pudding mix, WHY would you ask if you have to COOK it? It says add the instant pudding mix, so add it...And you don't cook INSTANT pudding anyways!!! Also, my cookies have never turned out crumbly, dry, "like rocks", "like little cakes", or anything but soft, moist and delicious and all I do is follow the recipe (except for adding a little extra vanilla). Don't be afraid to try this recipe just because of a few negative reviews. There are many 5 star ratings and I look at it this way, either we're doing something "wrong" to make these cookies turn out perfect & delicious, or they're doing something wrong to make them turn out hard & crappy. Which one do you think it is? ;)

No Bake Cookies V

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2012
These cookies are pretty good if you're in the mood for something sweet and don't feel like baking. My son asks for them often. My recipe is very similar. The only differences are: no salt and only 1/4c. of creamy peanut butter. The biggest difference (and the real trick to getting them to set up) is to bring your butter, sugar cocoa, milk mixture to a full boil and continue to boil for exactly 3 minutes. Works every time!

Oatmeal Peanut Butter Cookies

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2012
I wanted something sweet after dinner tonight, so I made my favorite chocolate chip cookies. After I was done mixing them up I decided to mix up another batch of cookies. I looked up peanut butter cookie recipes and decided on this one. The cookies were really good! I did add 1t. of vanilla and omitted the salt. (Peanut butter has salt in it and I don't like salty cookies). Thanks for the recipe!

Cheese and Bacon Potato Rounds

Reviewed: Jul. 13, 2012
These were pretty darn good (with some added spices). I knew the potatoes would be bland with no salt, so I dipped in melted butter then salt & peppered both sides. Also added a little onion powder. Followed directions for baking and they stuck to the cookie sheet pretty bad. Next time I'll use non-stick aluminum foil. Topped with cheddar, bacon and chives (didn't have green onion). I will be making these again.

Beef Burgundy III

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2012
I made this for dinner the other night along with roasted garlic mashed potatoes and I thought it was really good! I actually think it would be better with plain old noodles though. I followed the recipe, but I added a clove of minced garlic and a pinch of thyme. Very good recipe. I would like to make it without canned soup the next time. If anyone has a really good recipe for golden mushroom soup (that won't alter the taste of this recipe), it would be much appreciated ;)

Brooke's Best Bombshell Brownies

Reviewed: Feb. 13, 2014
So far this is the best brownie recipe I've found. They turned out chocolaty and chewy just like we like them. Although, they did have a slightly sugary or powdery texture right out of the oven. I'm thinking they'll be even better once they sit and cool down a bit. They are superb compared to another highly rated brownie recipe from this site, which I didn't care for at all. The only thing I had to do differently was substitute a stick of margarine for one of the sticks of butter, because I ran out of butter. I might try substituting unsweetened baker's chocolate for the cocoa powder next time. Of course, you'd have to cut back on the butter slightly to account for the fat in the baker's chocolate. I plan on experimenting with this one a bit, even though it is really good as written. Thanks for the recipe!

Sausage & White Bean Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2014
I've had this soup simmering for a while now. It smelled so good I couldn't resist sneaking a taste. It is amazing! I think the thyme really makes this soup go from good to great. The reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because I think 2 onions would have been way too much. I only used 1/2 of a large onion and it was plenty. I ended up with about equal parts of onion, celery and carrots. I also added extra chicken stock, because it seemed like three can of beans was just too much.. I drained all of the beans then just refilled the cans of whole beans with water (I didn't add any water to the mashed beans). I didn't want that extra salt from the bean liquid. It is definitely salty enough from the sausage and the chicken broth. I also added some spinach at the end for some color. This is now one of my favorite soup recipes. Definitely not lacking flavor. Thanks for the great recipe!

Waffles I

Reviewed: Jul. 29, 2013
Really good basic waffle recipe. I don't like really sweet things, especially for breakfast, so I only added a few drops of pure vanilla extract and I thought the 1T. of sugar was perfect. I have batter leftover, so tomorrow I'll try them with blueberries!

The Best Meatloaf I've Ever Made

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2012
My sister always said I made the best meatloaf, but she hasn't tried this recipe yet! I'm not usually a "recipe follower", I look through my cookbooks for inspiration, then do what will be to our taste. I decided to follow this recipe (except for the glaze). I don't like ketchup and usually just pour quite a bit of tomato sauce over my meatloaf, which I bake in a glass baking dish. We like to put the sauce over our mashed potatoes. Anyway, I followed the recipe, doubling it, for the meatloaf itself and it was DELICIOUS!!! I made one with tomato and one without. My sons, their cousin, and a friend didn't have any trouble finishing it ALL off! I mixed up a double batch to pop in the oven for dinner tomorrow...I'm hungry already!

Grandma's Vegetable Soup

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2012
I made this soup for my son and myself because I was looking for a way to use some ground beef I had on hand. It's good if you're looking for a fairly quick, cheap soup. That being said, it is definitely not like my Grandma's soup. We use a beef roast, homemade stock, fresh and/or frozen veg and a can of diced tomatoes. To me the ground beef is bland and the soup is quite tomato-y, but my son didn't complain. I might make it again in a pinch, but I'd definitely use beef stock in place of some of the tomato.
