Corn Dogs

Reviewed: May 21, 2013
This so far is the best recipe I have found, but I did have to modify it immediately. First, it calls for 1 cup of milk. Batter was way to thick. So I had to add an additional 1/2 cup and then thru out the fry another tbsp every now and then to keep it easy to coat. I didn't have any white sugar so I substituted brown instead and liked it, altho next time I think I will try honey. Lastly instead of the salt it called for I used 1 full tsp of my homemade house seasoning for extra flavor. I also heated my hotdogs up but as another reviewer suggested I did make sure the outside was completely dry before dipping them. I didn't even need to use flour or cornstarch to make the batter stick. It coated easily and stayed on while frying. They were so good! Even my picky child who normally hates corndogs ate TWO! Thanks so much for posting this recipe!

Easy Cheap and Yummy Casserole

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2010
Just wanted to add that I have made a similar version using 2 15oz cans of chili instead of the baked beans. We call it Chili Corn Dog Pie. Kids love it. Tonight I will be trying the baked beans version tho since I do have a some I want to use up. Can't wait to try it. :D

Classic Macaroni Salad

Reviewed: Sep. 6, 2010
I have made it twice...first as directed, but used a red bell pepper instead of green since no one in my family cares for them and deleting the chopped pimento, and because I had it, a RED onion.....it was "ok". Not a fan of that sweet/tart taste. I had one child who detested it and one child who loved it. The other kids were "so-so" with it. The next time I made it, I completely cut out both the vinegar and the sugar and instead of using 2 1/2 tbsp of yellow mustard, I used 1/4 cup honey mustard dipping sauce (I use Kents brand). I left everything else the same like I did before. Everyone, ALL my kids loved it. I think the shredded carrots, celery, red onion, red pepper and cucumber gives it a beautiful color contrast and yummy crunch.

English Toffee

Reviewed: Oct. 16, 2009
I have never made candy before and this was my first attempt. According to instructions I was supposed to butter a 10x15 pan, which I did. When I poured the candy, it did not fill the whole pan, only about half of it. I didn't try to spread it any thinner. After about a half hour of cooling, i noticed liquid butter all over the pan. I removed the candy which was pretty firm then to a cooling rack and placed the cooling rack in the fridge to finish setting up. About an hour later the chocolate was firm and we broke the candy into pieces and despite the minor mishaps, it tasted excellent! Even my kid's dad who isn't a toffee fan tried it and he actually liked it! I just thought it would make a larger amount based on the size pan called for and didn't expect the pools of butter.

Miracle Baking Powder Pie Crust

Reviewed: Oct. 4, 2009
I admittedly am not a baker. I prefer to buy my crusts. But based on other reviews raving about ease and taste I decided to try it. OMG! That was very bitter and chemical tasting. Like it had too much baking powder. I followed the recipe to the letter. Not only that, it kept crumbling even after chilling. I don't know what I did wrong but I will not be making this again. Altho if any experienced bakers would like to try to help me get over my fear of homemade pie crusts that would be great. LOL
