The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Jul. 18, 2010
I have made these twice now. The finished product is what I would consider the perfect Sugar Cookie. It's a beautiful white base for decoration but perfectly golden brown on the bottom for a little crunch. The only small qualm I have with the recipe is that these cookies (both times I made them) were not ready to be handled after one hour of chilling. If you are planning to make these, I recommend you chill them for at least 3 hours if you can't overnight.

Urban Legend Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Jun. 23, 2010
This is my new Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe. I used less shredded chocolate (1 oz) and less chips (1.5 cups) and it was plenty Chocolaty to me. I am giving it five stars for the build up of the cookie. I feel like the chocolate can be left to the baker's taste. But with the amounts I used, you could tell they were different (with the shredded chocolate) but not over the top, as might have been the case with the recommended amount. I'll certainly try that some time just to taste it but this is a great base recipe.

Cream Cheese Pound Cake III

Reviewed: Jun. 23, 2010
You know, I'm sad to say that this wasn't my favorite. I had high hopes for this as my first pound cake and I won't blame the recipe as it could have easily been something that I did. When the cake came out it was GORGEOUS. I was very pleased. But when we cut into it, it was so very thick. I think maybe a little less cream cheese? I'm not sure and will most likely try another recipe first but I did like another reviewer did and added raspberries in the middle - saved it, in my opinion. I would recommend giving the recipe a shot but it didn't work for me.

Strawberry Trifle

Reviewed: Jun. 23, 2010
This was a big hit. I think it tasted more like banana pudding with strawberries mixed in so I might incorporate more strawberry flavor with, let's say, the whipped cream or something but would have to try it to say for certain. Anyways, good recipe, I just wouldn't refer to it as a Strawberry Trifle as that is not the primary flavor.

Emily's Famous Marshmallows

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2009
FIRSTLY, ONLY COMBINE THE SUGAR MIXTURE AND GELATIN IN A LARGE BOWL OR PAN. I am not an experienced candy maker so I did not know that it would EXPLODE. I completely ruined the first batch. After that, everything worked great and I will make these again. These are phenomenal. I made these for my work Christmas Cookie Boxes and everyone loved them and couldn't believe they were homemade. I would love to try the swirl design in the picture but maybe after a few successful batches. I will certainly be making these again. I am only giving it less stars because of the lack of warning about mixing methods.

Double Layer Pumpkin Pie

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2009
Such a hit. I made small ones for Family Thanksgiving and made a big one for Friends Thanksgiving. Everyone loved it. It's a nice contrast to have a pumpkin pie that's not so dense and with a little extra fluff on the bottom.

Jif® Peanut Butter Blossoms

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2009
These are always great for the Christmas Cookie Boxes I make for co-workers. I have made them a few times and don't know if this is the recipe or me but I usually end up adding more flour. I can tell by the way they feel rolling if they'll be thick enough to look right. I'll update at a later date but I'm pretty sure that I add another half cup of flour to make them roll better......

Bev's Chocolate Pie

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2009
Fantastic Chocolate Pie. On my first attempt I did not make sure that the Meringue sealed to the edge. This is very important so pay close attention to that. This pie is exactly what I crave when I want a chocolate pie.

Carrot Cake Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2009
My Husband and his co-workers LOVED these. I made some cream cheese frosting to add at the eaters discretion and that proved a good addition. I will certainly be making these again. They are like an individual cake for all.

It's Chili by George!!

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2009
I just made this and it was delicious. I added a little more Cayenne Pepper to give it a punch. I got lucky. This was my first time making Chili and it was borderline too spicy for me but my Husband loves it. Next time around I will definitely add chunky tomatoes for more texture and flavor. But this Chili as is would be great, too.

Chewy Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2009
I like the concept of this recipe, but I, like the other baker, added 1 cup more of peanut butter and cut down significantly on the flour. I have not tried this recipe as it is written so I can't give it a bad review but as a base recipe, it served me well. The cookies were a huge hit.

Beth's Spicy Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2009
These are fantastic. I had never made oatmeal cookies before and was a little worried about consistency and dryness but no need to worry. The batter was so tasty I was excited to try the final product. The smell is so delightful in the house as well. I will be baking these again for sure.

Gramma Brown's Corn Chowder

Reviewed: Oct. 6, 2009
This was my first time making any kind of chowder. The recipe was easy to follow and turned out great. I would have found a little more guidance with the flour at the end helpful. We had these dumpling-like things in the chowder from the flour but they were not bad tasting. I just think that I must not have done it all the way right. Oh and, I will save the bacon for the top next time. It lost some the favor and texture that I love about bacon. Other than those two things, the chowder is absolutely delicious and we will be making it again.
