Wow! And WOW again!! Last year I tried making another recipe from this site (titled "Homemade Fresh Pumpkin Pie") and was less than impressed, I almost gave up trying to make one but this fall I searched AllRecipes.com and found Mrs. Siggs recipe- The search is now over because I have found the BEST recipe ever for fresh homemade pumpkin pie!! I tried baking the pumpkin to get it soft enough to mash but after 1 1/2 hours it never got soft enough, the next night I tried my old standby, BOILING it and it worked great,I just made sure that I drained it thoroughly in my colander first. I followed the recipe exactly although I had to modify oven temperatures for my old and wacky oven that either gets too hot or not hot enough, my pie cooked at 440 at first and the 395 the rest of the time - thats just for me. I didnt have store bought pumpkin pie spice but the AllRecipes.com recipe for pumpkin pie spice (1T cinnamon, 1t nutmeg, 1t allspice and 1t ginger) was perfect. Dont fret if you dont have the storebought spice - use this mix once and you'll never buy it again from a store! I got rave reviews for this pie from family with ages 11-88 and cannot wait to make it again - it takes a while to go from uncut pumpkin to preparing to cooking to table but it is so worth the effort - Try it! My mouth waters just thinking about the pie I am going to make tomorrow!!
