Apple Oatmeal Crisp

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2012
Very nice, like mom used to make. Needs 1 tsp salt in dry mixture. I added the cinnamon into dry mixture and i did without the white sugar altogether.

Carrot Cake

Nice, moist cake. Bakes up nicely. Only added nutmeg simply because I like nutmeg.

Artichoke and Spinach Swirls

Reviewed: Oct. 20, 2010
Great recipe, simple and went over very well. I did have to change some things because where I live we don't have a lot of the prepackaged foods (and I'm happy for that!). I used fresh spinach, garlic and onion. I also used hearts of palm because artichokes come and go where I live too. The puff pastry was also fresh made from a pastry shop.

Butter Frosting

Reviewed: Aug. 24, 2010
A good, simple butter frosting. If you prefer a bit more of a buttery flavor up the butter a bit or add butter flavoring.

Nice, simple chocolate frosting. I used 2% milk and it worked out fine. Piped well.

Buttermilk Pie

Reviewed: Apr. 1, 2010
Light and gentle in flavor. I never had buttermilk pie before and was quite impressed with the taste. Definitely a good dessert for someone who doesn't like a rich dessert. The only thing I'd change is cooking it in a pie tin...next time I'll use a tart pan.

Cake Mixes from Scratch and Variations

Reviewed: Mar. 19, 2010
I was not impressed. I don't use cake mixes from boxes and I am constantly searching for a good yellow cake from scratch...in my opinion this is not it. The hunt is still on. I was willing to even give it 2 stars because taste is relative. Too heavy, poor flavor.

Cordon Bleu Chicken Rolls

Reviewed: Mar. 11, 2010
Good. I used smoked turkey as I don't eat pork. Breadcrumbs instead of cornflakes simply because that is what I had on hand. Also had to improvise on the cream of chicken soup since where I live you can't find cans of soup at all. I used homemade chicken stock, cornstarch for thickening and then added the sour cream and lemon. It went over well even with a 2 1/2 year old!

Sweet and Sour Pork III

Reviewed: Mar. 8, 2010
Excellent, easy recipe. I don't eat pork so I used chicken. I also added red bell peppers. The only suggestion I have is that you premix the cornstarch and 1/4 cup water so you don't get cornstarch dumplings when you dump the cornstarch into the boiling apple cider mixture.

BAKER'S ONE BOWL Brownies

Reviewed: Nov. 7, 2009
I've been using this recipe for years and I am always pleased with it. I do make one change and that is the pan size. A 13x9 is too small in my opinion, I use an 8x8 for a thicker brownie. I also remove the brownies BEFORE a toothpick comes out clean or they are over baked. When a bit of batter is still sticking to the toothpick they should be taken out of the oven as they will continue to bake a bit out of the oven. The aluminum foil is a MUST too. I prefer roasted almonds to any other nut but of course that is optional.

Apple Pie by Grandma Ople

Reviewed: Oct. 6, 2009
Great recipe. Would of been 5 star but I can't ignore the lack of cinnamon...it's a must in apple pie. 1 tsp cinnamon, a bit of nutmeg and nix the water in the sauce...most apples have enough moisture.

Chocolate Banana Crepes

Reviewed: Sep. 27, 2009
These tasted good and were liked by the family but they were difficult in the pan. I make plain crepes VERY OFTEN and they are easy to flip and slide out of the pan...not so with these. Since the family liked them and wanted them again I used my plain crepe recipe and added a bit more milk and cocoa powder to that one and they were much nicer.

Down Under Lemon Tart

Reviewed: Sep. 27, 2009
Filling was great. The crust was too sweet for me, next time I'd use a simple butter (no sugar) crust.
