Zu's Fried Apple Pies

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2012
This is a good recipe, but it's even better with the following changes: 1) Add cinnamon to the pastry. 2) Don't mash the apples up into a sauce, but just slice them thinly, and it tastes more authentic. 3) to the apple mixture, add the following spices: nutmeg, cloves, and a little more cinnamon. I would highly suggest adding the spices TO YOUR OWN TASTE. I love spices, so I will add a lot more. 3) Instead of using shortening in your pastry, use softened butter. Make sure the butter is still cool from the refrigerator, but able to stir. (By the way, I would suggest doing that ANY time you're making crusts and pastries). I hope you enjoy this recipe!

Pumpkin Gingerbread

Reviewed: Oct. 18, 2012
When I made this is turned out delicious! Here are some changes I made: 1) I used olive oil instead of vegetable oil (to be healthier) This made the batter thicker, but in the end it turned out alright. 2) I added 1 tsp. nutmeg, and I doubled all of the other spices. 3) I kept the amount of baking soda the same, but I put in a full teaspoon of Baking Powder instead of just 1/2 of a teaspoon. It made the bread fluffier. This recipe was an all around favorite! Definitely 5 stars!!

Baked Salmon II

Reviewed: Oct. 18, 2012
This is a great and VERY simple recipe to make. Anybody can make this one, even if you don't know ANYTHING at all about salmon! :) Here are some good suggestions. 1) My main suggestion is this: There is WAY TOO MUCH OLIVE OIL! After reading another review, I put in half the olive oil, and even that was a bit too much! 2) I added a teaspoon of dill and it turned out wonderful! 3) I am a garlic-lover and I did two more cloves of garlic than the recipe called for. ;) That always tastes better!! I know you'll enjoy this recipe! We had this with steamed broccoli and wild rice. This recipe - (despite too much olive oil) - is just perfect and everyone LOVES IT! Try it!

Fried Apple Pies

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2012
This recipe was delicious! Here are some modifications we did when we made it: 1) We used a different recipe for pie crust, and they turned out great! 2) We added cloves and nutmeg to the apple mixture. 3) Instead of making the apples into applesauce, we just sliced them thinly and did not put them on the stove. That was great because you could taste the apples more and the texture was better. This is definitely a good recipe and is very easy to make! Try it! :)

Gingerbread I

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2012
I love this recipe! I used softened butter instead of shortening, and I doubled all the spices and did a little extra baking soda. Also, I added about a half of a teaspoon of ground cloves.

Scones

When it says to cut in the butter, microwave it for 20 seconds, then cut it into little squares. It will make it a LOT easier when you add it to the flour mixture. I thought it was still too moist when it was time to roll it out, so I added about one more cup of flour to it, and it worked fine. Before it went into the oven I spread butter and cinnamon plentifully and that was AWESOME!! This recipe is just great, and is really good with jame and whipped cream on top when it's hot from the oven!

Pumpkin Cookies V

Our family absolutely LOVES THIS RECIPE! I have learned to double the recipe because they are all gone the minute they get set out for eating! ;) Here are some alterations that might help you. 1) they almost always need longer in the oven. I would suggest putting them in for 15 min. instead of 10 min. 2) I added a teas. more or so of cinnamon . (I am a real spice-lover!) You could also add 1/2 teas. cloves, and/or 1/2 teas. nutmeg. 3) if you want to store them, put them in an air-tight container and HIDE THEM! ;D Believe me, they will be eaten in no time at all! I give this recipe 2 thumbs up. They are like little bites of rich, moist, heavenly cakes. I know you'll love it!!

These pancakes are very good. The syrup is what really makes the difference.

Boston Baked Beans

Reviewed: Oct. 4, 2009
From reading Ralph Moody's books, we wanted to make the New England beans his mother made. This recipe fits the bill and is delicious! I don't think our family will ever be able to go back to the canned baked beans. These are so much better!
