Waffles I

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2013
I've followed the recipe exactly and love that they are light and crisp! I've even made modifications such as subbing half white whole wheat flour and using energ-egg instead of real egg and still light and crispy. I've tried all whole wheat flour and it just does not work, they do not come out crispy and light and I eat mainly whole wheat. However, as is the recipe is excellent.

Grandma Johnson's Scones

Reviewed: May 24, 2012
Definitely easy to follow recipe. Nice flavor a little bland, added vanilla, white chocolate chips and cranberries and i still felt flavor was missing. This recipe makes more than just 12 servings, I cut them in half and the size was still huge.

Simple Whole Wheat Bread

Reviewed: May 2, 2012
I made this bread for 20 people, and used all whole wheat flour. I used my bread machine but still followed recipe. Mixed the first half in dough mode and let it sit for 30. Then started the kneading process again and added the rest of ingredients. dough seemed a little dry given all the whole wheat so I added warm water. After dough cycle finished, punched, rolled and put it in bread pan and let it sit in fridge overnight. Took out of fridge where it sat covered for 90 min to come to room temp on top of oven. Last 15 minutes sitting out I put it on top of stove while preheating oven. Bread came out perfectly and so easy. FINALLY I have found the perfect 100% whole wheat bread that I can make in my machine and so easy!! Homemade bread every week from now on!

Chai Tea Mix

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2012
first of all this recipe makes way too much...if u don't end up liking it what a waste! second its not that great. If I had tasted it from someone that made it for me I would not ask for it again. It has the spice which is nice but the other flavors aren't working for me, now I am stuck drinking something that is so so.

Chilean-Style Sopaipillas

Reviewed: Jan. 20, 2012
I am an American Chilean, but my mother came from Chile and she has made sopaipillas all my life and when I have gone to Chile my aunts make us sopaipillas. I especially like them soaked in chancaca. These are nothing like what my mom or my aunts make. Although they are ok to eat "dry", their bread like texture is NOT good for soaking them in syrup (pasadas which is my favorite way of eating them). After taking them out of the sauce they were beyond soggy, nothing like my mom or my aunts make in Chile :(

Peanut Butter Cup Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 21, 2011
I am all about the cookie dough without all extras like the peanut butter cup in the middle or chocolate chips etc. This dough was excellent and just the right amount of sweetness for a cookie. I am rating these a 4 because the sweetness of the peanut butter cup would have been overkill. I think they are perfect without the "cup" and very peanut buttery! I took them out of the oven and left them on the pan for about 5 minutes before putting them on the rack to finish cooling. I believe this helped them from cracking and breaking.

Clone of a Cinnabon

Reviewed: Jul. 9, 2011
I have been making these for a couple of years now and nothing compares to these in other stores or bakeries. They are always a hit, and they even taste great when I substitute half of the flour with whole wheat flour, and when I use vegan substitutes for the milk, eggs, and butter. Way healthier that way too!

Jay's Signature Pizza Crust

Reviewed: Jul. 9, 2011
this is a fantastic recipe as written. I like to make it using half whole wheat, and even all whole wheat and it still tastes great. I usually make only one pizza, so the extra dough I will roll out into 4-6 inch circles and put in the oven and they turn out like pita bread! my whole family love it!

Sugar Coated Pecans

Reviewed: Jul. 9, 2011
I followed this recipe exactly as written. I think it is perfect as is especially since I put it in a salad. The nuts were sweet but it finished with a salt flavor which was great. Next time for putting in a salad I will skip the cinnamon, but my husband did like the cinnamon. But they are fantastic to snack on as a special treat and so easy and quick!

Scalloped Potatoes and Onions

Reviewed: Apr. 8, 2011
I agree with other viewers it is perfect as is without altering anything. However, I have made it completely vegan, using vegetable broth, earth balance butter, and vegenaise (instead of mayonnaise) and everyone loved it and they couldn't believe it was vegan! Thanks for a great recipe!

Lemon Lover's Pound Cake

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2011
the taste is delicious. denser than regular cake. I followed other reviewers advised so I added more lemon juice (about 12 tablespoons of freshly squeezed lemon juice) and didn't have enough zest to make 1 tbsp so I zested oranges. It was sweet and very lemony just like I like it. 5 tbsp of lemon juice would not have been enough, thus 4 stars instead of 5.

Mexican Rice II

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2010
This really was delicious very reminiscent of what the Mexican women of my church used to make. I think I may try using a lot of sauteed fresh garlic (that is what I remember them using more than onion). Definitely a keeper and will make again!

Butter Chickpea Curry

Reviewed: Jan. 20, 2010
This was an excellent recipe! I had to make some alterations because I didn't have everything that it asked for. I didn't have curry powder so just left it out. I also didn't have condensed tomato soup, so used some tomato sauce, and instead of cream/milk I used coconut milk. It was absolutely delicious. Tasted great with sweet baked potato on the side. Next time will put it in instead of potatoes!

Fresh Southern Peach Cobbler

Reviewed: Jan. 20, 2010
This is an excellent recipe. I always skip the sugar on top and make my own filling with strawberries & apple. Although with the peaches it is excellent as well! My husband always asks for this topping!

Did it just as written. Didn't like this dip at all, and I love artichoke and spinach, and dips that have both those things in it too!! So disappointed.

Old Fashioned Coconut Cream Pie

Reviewed: Jan. 20, 2010
Did this exactly as written. Felt like the filling got to thick even though I took it off as soon as it started boil. Didn't taste at all like coconut! Did get compliments, but not my thing.

Mom's Applesauce Pancakes

Reviewed: Jan. 20, 2010
This is excellent. I make my own dry pancake mix and follow the recipe. The adjustments I've made because I'm vegan is 2 tbsp milled flax seed blended with 4 tbsp of water, and then soymilk in place of regular. Still excellent even with the changes! Sometimes thicker than other times, b/c I add whole wheat, but such an easy fix, add more liquid!
