About this Cook
I'm a former combat engineer for the U.S. Army. Since leaving the army on disability I've become a sort of house husband and this has left me with a lot of time on my hands to experiment in cooking.
My favorite things to cook
Honestly my favorite thing to cook is egg drop soup. Other than that (because not even I can live on that alone) I love pasta and chicken. Whether it's a pasta dish, or a chicken dish, or a chicken and pasta dish, I'm happy.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My favorite cooking tradition would definitely have to be baking christmas treats with my mother. I'm also very fond of just the traditional meals for the holidays.
My cooking triumphs
My cooking triumphs would have to be successfully making a thanksgiving dinner from scratch by myself, and the first time I made sushi with my wife. It was almost a disaster but we had a blast and it ended up coming out pretty tasty.
My cooking tragedies
The first couple times I tried to make beef stew weren't horrible but they were pretty bland. My first pumpkin pie using real pumpking came out so bad I got mad and threw it out the back door... the birds loved it though.

Pumpkin Pie III
I was worried at first because it came out of the oven really jiggly but the knife came out clean and the crust was beginning to singe. After sitting on the counter a bit and then being transferred to the fridge to cool and finish setting it thickened to satisfaction. I haven't tried it yet (waiting for a potluck tomorrow morning) but judging from everyone else' reactions this should be good. Just a note though, I've been using the puree from my halloween pumpkins (un-carved, they just chilled outside) and the 15 ounce can of premade can be substituted for slightly less than 2 cups of homemade puree. This will just about top out a 9" deep dish pie plate.

Pumpkin Pie
I won't give this less than a three because everyone seems to like this but I can't see any reason why it made such a top of the list. I followed these directions to a T and had to cook this for almost two hours and it came out looking like a bad pumpkin custard.

REAL Homemade Pumpkin Pie
A sugar pumpkin, regardless of quality does not compensate for the complete lack of additional sugar. An additional 1/2 cup of brown sugar should suffice. Next time, include the yield on your 1 medium sugar pumpkin. Medium will vary between people and as spices are easy to overuse, especially in baking, a yield of 4 cups of puree and 6 cups of puree will make for incredibly large differences in taste.
