This is a wonderful pie to make, even if you don't have the butter or vanilla in it! I made it two ways: as written and w/o vanilla and butter (family!) Both came out really well, though I only baked it for about 8 minutes instead of the full 12-15. This thing is so easy to put together, doesn't take a lot of cooking skill, expensive ingredients, or prep time. And I think if put into mini tart pans, the filling would be superb to serve warm! The pie is a lot like a pudding - doesn't quite hold together into a true "slice", but my family absolutely loved it! I'm also going to try making it with almond milk, since my mother in law isn't good with dairy. I'm thinking the original might be nice, but it also comes in vanilla, so we'll see!
