I am now retired and living alone in a pensioner flat. I love cooking but find it difficult just cooking for myself so I do love entertaining. Unfortunately on my limited income I am not always able to buy some of the ingredients I would like. In New Zealand we have an abundance of fresh food, vegetables, poultry, fish and other seafood. Being of Maori descent I am very interested in Maori recipes which incorporate many different plants and meats. I also like traditional European dishes too.
My favorite things to cook
Boil ups, this is made with brisket or bacon bones boiled up for a long period with water cress or a wild native plant "puha". This is a favourite Maori dish, especially in the colder winter months. I also like making egg dishes, roasts and baking.
My cooking tragedies
The time I used margarine instead of butter. YUK!
