Banana Butterscotch Bread

Reviewed: May 18, 2010
This banana bread came out just perfect! Very tasty and a great twist on standard banana bread. The butterscotch is prefect with the bananas; I have made it with choc.chips and they overpower the bread a bit much. I followed the recipe exactly, only used on bread pan instead of two, and baked for 60 min. It came out just the right size as a loaf bread - 2-3 inches tall. Thanks for sharing this recipe!

Red Velvet Cupcakes

Reviewed: May 6, 2010
Great cupcakes - really yummy and quite unique. Boy, you are not kidding when you said DO NOT OVERMIX. I didn't think I had, but they came out quite dense, so I must have. I made these in mini muffin tins, and there were just the right size (that may have contributed to the dense-ness as well - can't recommened doing mini tins with this recipe). Was not sure about the icing; the sour cream really came through too much over the cream cheese. Next time I am going to omit the sour cream and go for more of a cream cheese frosting and see what happens. Definetly try this recipe though!

Irish Cream Bundt Cake

Reviewed: Mar. 21, 2010
WOW! This cake was just fantastic. I followed the recipe exactly, and it was just so moist and full of flavour - the irish cream is just the perfect amount. I did make a mistake in adding the glaze as an "icing" on the top rather than a glaze all over - don't recommend this. Appearance wise it didn't look that great, so the pot luck it was destined for, didn't make it, so we had to eat it ourselves. Oh well! What a tasty mistake :)

Elegant Stuffed Chicken and Asparagus Bundles

Reviewed: Mar. 21, 2010
This recipe worked out just great! At first I thought the taste might be a birt boring, but then in the end it was really tasty. A really nice warm in your belly evening meal. I followed the recipe quite close, just scaling down on the stuffing ingredients and using a box of stuffing instead of cornbread. I served with just steamed veggies, but did cut the chicken as suggested, and made a gravy with the drippings. (Add chicken stock and/or liquid chicken oxo to the bottom of the dish to get drippings for gravy) Just great! Do try.

Restaurant-Style Buffalo Chicken Wings

Reviewed: Mar. 11, 2010
Great recipe - I was unable to find "drummettes" in the store, so I used the frozen Party Style Wings. Although small, they were big on taste. As per another reviewers comments, if you like hotter wings, lower the amount of butter and increase the amount of hot sauce. I used 1/3 butter and 2/3 sauce and it was still not hot enough some! I fried them in a bit of oil until just brown and then baked at 350 for 20 min, basting each time I turned them, which was once or twice. Definetly try this recipe for great wings done at home!

Easy Meatloaf

Reviewed: Mar. 11, 2010
This is a great meatloaf recipe; I haven't yet tried one with milk added, but I did so for this one, and it turned out great. I also added mushrooms (chopped quite small). I personally did not like the sauce topping, and would stick with a tomatoe based sauce/topping.

Award Winning Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Mar. 11, 2010
These are fantastic cookies! I followed the recipe exactly. The only thing different I did was to smush down the top of the "ball of dough", as I placed it on the cookie sheet to bake; this ensured a flatter cookie. Highly recommend this recipe!

Tomato Chicken Parmesan

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2010
Excellent recipe - this is the best chicken parm I have ever made. I followed the recipe just as is, except added the cheese for only the last 7 min. Very nice warm home cooked meal!

Apple Pie by Grandma Ople

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2009
So this was my very first attempt at any kind of pie, so I thought I would go with the best recipe I could find! The taste was fantastic, although next time I would go with Granny Smith apples for sure, and not the red cooking apple I used; it was too mushy. I did not attempt the lattice work topping, rather tried just a standard pastry top, which I made a disaster of, so ended up with a crumb topping that was just great. Excellent recipe - thanks for sharing!

Pork Tenderloin in Bourbon

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2009
I tried this recipe with thick cut pork chops, and the marinade really just stayed on the outside. I would stick to the called for cuts of pork. The bourbon was nice, but the brown sugar really made the chops too sweet for us!

Baked Bar-be-Que Chicken

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2009
Great recipe, and nice and simple too! I left the skin on, but pulled it up to get seasoning under the skin, and it was just great. I basted the chicken with more bbq sauce half way through, and then in the last 5 min too. It was very good!

These pork chops came out perfect! I followed the recipe pretty close, just added more seasoning than asked for. Highly recommend; pesto is great with pork!

Penne with Garlicky Broccolini

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2009
Great and easy dinner for sure! I was just looking for a "meat less" dinner recipe, and while I couldn't resist adding the bacon to this dish, this fit the bill perfectly. I did need to add 1 teaspoon of olive oil just before adding the pasta to the rest of the ingredients, however that may be because I scaled down the recipe for 2, and there must have been less bacon grease to work with. Highly recommend for a great light dinner!

Sugar Cookie Icing

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2009
Great Recipe! The part I liked most about this, besides the glossy finish which is hard to achieve with other recipes, and the fast drying icing, was the size of the recipe as posted here, is the perfect size for multiple batches in different colors. You won't end up with too much icing in one color. I used lemon extract instead of vanilla -- and can't recommend this. I stopped the lemon after 1 batch; it was way too strong. At this point I was out of vanilla extract so actually did not add any extract to the rest of the batches and it was still great. Now, if someone can just tell me how to do the creative icing part with eyes and words without making the character look very silly, I am all set!

The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2009
This is a fantastic Sugar Cookie Recipe. I have tried many others, and none have come out as tasty and easy to work with as this one. The only change I made was add 1/2 cup more sugar, per another review. I found the dough simple to work with, and using confectioners sugar instead of flour to coat your working surface was an excellent suggestion. They were a hit with my husbands office team! Will definitely use again at Christmas!

Lasagna Roll Ups

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2009
This was a great dinner - paired it with a Caesar salad. I substituted tofu for mild Italian sausage, and it gave the lasagna a nice kick! I cut the ingredients in half, trying to make for two people with leftovers, and it was still fantastic. Excellent recipe - will definitely use again.

Baked Garlic Parmesan Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2009
Great recipe - thanks for sharing! The only item I added was seasoning salt and pepper to the chicken breast before coating in the oil and garlic. I even paired down the recipe just for two, and it came out great. Served with rice dish and asparagus. The next two days the chicken was fantastic on a kaiser roll too!
