About this Cook
Hi, I read your review about the gumbo and being a "newbie" at cooking...I remember those days! lol so just wanted to send you some friendly advice about "roux" LAUGH OUT LOUD big time...it is just a thickener to make what ever dish you want to make "thicker". So I will tell you about the best secret ever...its called Wondra...it comes in a blue can and should be right next to the flour in your local grocery store. Wondra is flour already shifted and has corn starch and all the other stuff you would need to make any kind of good thickning (roux) or any gravy! Altho it may cost around $3.00 bucks or more it is well worth it! Hope this helps you?....I love Allrecipes.....good luck to ya as a new COOK....Joy from Ohio

Fresh Mild Salsa
Yes....and it is GREAT!!...I hate to say I get recipes and tell that I did do something different...lol but don't we all do that who cook alot! But I will brag about this one...so the only things I did different is I used red onions instead of white. And I DID NOT USE Serrano pepper because of my 13yr old son...and no jalapeno pepper but I did replace a little dash or two with crushed red peppers to taste (because I like hot salsa). I used Lime juice (because I had that on hand). I also added 1 cup of fresh pineapple I cut into tidbits for added flavor of just enough kick of sweetness to the kick of this great salsa!! enjoy!

Cranberry Salad III
I made this for thanksgiving. I wanted something different other that cranberry sauce out of a can..lol and it turned out great! I used a 9x13 glass pan and made three 3 layers. But what I did different is I added 1 1/2cup of thawed frence vanilla whipped topping (because that is what I plenty of on hand for pies) to the cream cheese w/mayo & pecans. And only because I tasted just the cream cheese, mayo and pecans before hand, it was just a little tart for taste. But next time I make this I will also add maybe some mandarian oranges along with this. But great recipe and everyone's taste is different and it was a hit at my house of 30 people...gone quick! thanks!!!

Cornbread Muffins I
This is a very, very good recipe! The sweetness and the corn along with the honey was great. The only thing I did different was I made this in an 8" iron skillet. I rubbed butter in the skillet before I poured the corn bread in. I baked it at 350 for 18 minutes. Turn out golden and delicious. Will make this again for sure! Thanks
