About this Cook
My mom cooked for us when we were little, but she never really liked it, so when I got old enough I took over the majority of the cooking duties in our household. Now I have a household of my own and my cooking is branching out. My husband and I are both looking to get a little healthier, and we're trying to raise our daughter on healthy foods (unlike how I was raised), so I'm trying lots of new healthy foods to cook and eat.
My favorite things to cook
Cheesecake, but only because I can never get it just right and I have to keep trying again! Anything new, somewhat easy, and adaptable. I typically find a recipe and end up improvising something close to it.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I'm starting new traditions! The husband and I both have close families, so instead of arguing over whose family's house we're going to on holidays, I declared that everyone is coming to our house. Also, my family cooks nothing but fatty, unhealthy foods, and I'm putting an end to that!
My cooking triumphs
Easter was my first time hosting a two-family dinner. I was so nervous! But I planned it all out in advance and started cooking about 2 days before the main event. Even though I was trying new foods and sneaking in healthy substitutions wherever I could, everyone loved all the food, and the day was a major succes.
My cooking tragedies
Once I was improvising a lemony zucchini recipe I found. I hadn't bothered to copy the recipe, so I was just working from memory. It came out tasting like a very spicy, very tart lemon. Next time I'll remember to at least glance at the measurements!

Banana Frittata
I thought this was going to be weird, but it turned out very yummy! I used vanilla soy milk and egg substitute and skipped the oil and butter to make it a little healthier. I sprinkled some chopped pecans over it and drizzled with some light syrup... yum! Even my fiancé loved it! And the best part--it was SO easy! I will make this again and again!

Coffee Praline Muffins
Very easy to make. I liked the coffee flavor and actually could have done with a bit more. I substituted vanilla soy milk for the milk and it added a nice touch of sweetness. Next time I think I will add a little more vanilla soy milk and some cinnamon for more moisture and an extra flavor kick, but I will be making them again.
