Butternut Squash Fries

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2009
I coated the fries in olive oil, salt, cinnamon and pepper and they turned out great! Make sure you cut them thick because they shrink up quite a bit. I used only the neck of the squash to make them all the same size and saved the curved part for my butternut soup.

Delicious Apple Sauce

Reviewed: Oct. 4, 2009
I made this recipe in bulk - I used 3 bags of small pink lady apples, 250g brown sugar and 650ml water and a 1/2 tablespoon cinnamon. I loved it but the hubby said to reduce the cinnamon even more (but he's a Brit who likes everything plain). Also stores in containers very well for weekday lunches!

Hungarian Mushroom Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2009
I have not even finished cooking it yet and can't stop tasting it! I replaced the dill with dried thyme and added more paprika and some shredded roasted chicken I had leftover from the night before... excellent!

Proper English Cottage Pie

Reviewed: Dec. 10, 2009
I really liked this and I personally felt it needed more spice... but my husband loved it (and he is a Brit with aversion to black pepper). I used Bisto instead of beef broth - which thickened it perfectly and they freeze really well.

Slow Drunk Roasted Chicken

Reviewed: Mar. 22, 2010
Making it again tomorrow night - my husband loves it and it makes great sandwiches too. IMPORTANT NOTE... I have tried this recipe with different lager's and it makes a BIG difference in the taste. You need to use a lager with "bite" too it - if you can not find FostersĀ® then the green bottles usually work and are easier to find in the supermarket.
