Married, two married daughters, and a Grandma to four. Tyler-12; Trenton-6, Jordan-6 and Ashlyn-3. The two boys live really close, so they are at my house all the time and help me cook. They are getting pretty good.
My favorite things to cook
I like cooking caseroles, slow cooking and trying all types of new things. My husband does not do "spicy", so I have to watch that one. Really enjoy different meat recipes. We do a lot of gardening, so canning is very high on my list.
My favorite family cooking traditions
We are always together on Christmas Eve and my Mother started a tradition when I was little that carries today. We have homemade oyster stew and ham sandwiches after church services. She would be happy that this has continued. She passed away 6 years ago and both of my girls know the recipe and will continue after I am gone.
My cooking triumphs
I have some awesome recipes passed down from my Grams, Mother, and Aunt for canned foods from the garden. My girls think I have the best Peanut Butter cake recipe in the world -- so did my Grandfather, I made it for his birthday every year.
My cooking tragedies
Sometimes I still have problems with mashed potatoes. My family gets a real laugh out of it. They say I can cook anything, but they have to stand back when they look at the potatoes, just to be sure they are edible. I think it is the type of potatoes I use. It doesn't happen often, but when it does--it is a disaster, but very funny.
