Hello! I am a total neophyte ... I used to be a fry-cook at some decent bar-and-grill type joints back in the 80s, but I haven't really cooked since. Now, I'm trying to bring a higher level of dining back into my life and to re-discover my love for cooking.
My favorite things to cook
I don't know! I'm trying to figure this out ... The one thing I've made consistently over the years is a quiche lorraine. I guess I like to cook it because I keep making it ...
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mother was a hard-working single-parent who was a great kitchen improviser. She was great at making the best of the ingredients she could afford, and my favorite recipes still involve certain quantities of Jiffy-Mix, etc.
My cooking triumphs
All of the recipes I've tried from this site have gone down well with my wife, who is, in large part, my impetus for cooking more and for eating better. So far, the Swiss Cheese Meat-Loaf really made her eyes light up ... She is Turkish, also, and she approved of my take on the manti recipe I found here, though I made the pastas 800% too large.
My cooking tragedies
"The Corn-Baby." I'll say no more.
