Curry Stand Chicken Tikka Masala Sauce

Reviewed: Sep. 5, 2013
This was amazing! I lightened it up by only using 1 tablespoon of ghee and replacing the heavy cream with 6oz of non-fat greek yogurt and 1/2 cup of 1% milk. I left everything else the same. You have to make sure to temper the yogurt before adding it to the tomato sauce to avoid curdling. I'm sure it's not as good as the higher fat version but it still tasted amazing without all the guilt!

Split Pea Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 7, 2012
Great recipe! I added a little chicken bouillon. I also used Jenni-o turkey ham to try and be a little healthier but it was awful! I first cut it into big chunks to simmer in the soup and add flavor but it ended up looking like a spongy mystery meat after cooking for a an hour. I just took it out and had a vegetarian soup- which was very tasty!

Spiced Quinoa

Reviewed: Apr. 27, 2012
This dish is one of our family favorites!! It is so delicious yet so good for you. I normally add a tablespoon of curry as we like a stronger flavor. I also add toasted walnuts as they are cheaper than pine nuts.

Death by Chocolate Mousse

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2012
This was too easy to be so delicious! I love chocolate and this had the perfect amount of flavor and richness for me (and everyone who tried it!). I made a homemade graham cracker pie crust instead of using a chocolate one as I thought that might be too much for our guests. The amount of chocolate filling was enough to fill 2 9-inch pie pans so I may cut the recipe in half next time. I did not have a double broiler so I just melted the chocolate in a pan on low heat and that worked great. The smooth, creamy texture just makes you want to savor every bite! This will be my go-to chocolate pie from now on!

Grilled Chicken Thighs Tandoori

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2011
I'm giving this 4 stars even though this turned out bad for me! I used greek yogurt which was very thick. Since other reviewers said they did not wipe the marinade off before cooking I thought it'd be fine but...WAY to much spice was stuck to that yogurt and thus made the grilled chicken way too strong in flavor. I felt like I was getting a mouthful of cloves and cinnamon. I think I would try this again someday but I would use regular yogurt which is easier to wipe off (and I would then wipe it off!). I also think I'd cut the salt in half. Too bad this didn't turn out :(

Jalapeno Snacks

Reviewed: Aug. 15, 2011
These were very good but I thought they were just a little too salty. Next time I will omit the ranch dressing mix and add garlic powder and chopped green onions in its place.

Pork Tenderloin in Mustard Marinade with Cherry Compote

Reviewed: Aug. 5, 2011
This was very good and an interesting change from steaks on the grill. For some reason the pork seemed a little salty even though half teaspoon doesn't seem like that much (maybe it's because I marinated it for 24 hours??). It took us almost 40 minutes to grill the pork so plan the sauce accordingly. I thought the pork would be done sooner per the recipe so I ended up overcooking it. The flavor was still pretty good but the consistency became goopy, sticky and congeeled (more like a chutney/relish than a sauce). We will definately make again!

Chicken Breasts Pierre

Reviewed: Feb. 12, 2011
I really liked this dish but I thought it was just a tad too sweet as written. I will definately make this again but will either use diced tomatoes over stewed (sugar was listed as the 3rd ingredient!) or will cut back on the brown sugar. I should mention that I used balsamic vinegar because I didn't have white vinegar so maybe that's where the extra sweetness came from.

Giant Chocolate Chip Cookie

Reviewed: Sep. 9, 2010
Turned out great! One recommendation, put tin foil or another pan underneath the cookie pan in the oven. Mine baked a little over the edges and caught on fire in the oven!! My whole apartment filled with smoke. But the cookie still tasted delicious.

Ruth's Grandma's Pie Crust

Reviewed: May 22, 2010
This pie crust was the best and easiest I've ever made. So flakey and delicious! It did fall apart a bit when I rolled it out and put it in the pie pan but it only took a couples minutes to patch things up- the taste was worth the work.

Pecan Pie V

Reviewed: May 22, 2010
Delicious! This was my first ever pecan pie and I cannot believe how great it turned out! I made it for my boyfriend's dad's birthday and he is a pecan pie coniseure. He loved it! I cooked it at 350 for 15 minutes and then 300 degrees for 50 minutes as suggested by some but when I checked it after 60 minutes the middle was still runny so I turned the oven back up to 350. Well that caused it to finish cooking in 20 minutes (I didn't expect it to cook that fast). I actually thought I totally over-cooked it but...it was awesome! That said, I think the temperature depends on your oven and next time I'll cook the pie at a higher temp and check more often. Also, I used "Ruth's Grandma's Pie Crust" and it was the best crust I've ever made.

Balsamic-Glazed Salmon Fillets

Reviewed: Mar. 19, 2010
I really liked this and it was easy to prepare. I added more honey to suite my taste. I would recommend tasting the glaze before putting it on the salmon to see if you need to add more honey, dijon, salt, etc.

Spinach Artichoke Feta Ball

Reviewed: Jan. 17, 2010
I liked this a lot. I made the mistake of adding extra spinach trying to get more veggies in. It was too much, it made it difficult to cut into, wasn't as visually appealing, and the taste of spinach was a bit much. That said, I still gave the recipie 5 stars because it was still good and I know when I make it with the proper amount of spinach it will be great. I used half a pouch of ranch and it was perfect.

Apple Pie by Grandma Ople

Reviewed: Dec. 8, 2009
The pie turned out kind of dry for me (i.e., there wasn't enough of the mixture to coat all the apples) so I thought it was just ok. I think it could be really good if I increased the butter/sugar mixture (I would double it but I'm sure that would be too much for many). This is especially true because the lack of butter/sugar made the granny smiths just a bit too tart! I made it for a family event and no one said it was bad but no one said it was "the best apple pie ever" either. Just my experience.

Mom's Zucchini Bread

This bread was very good. I did the half apple sauce, half oil change and I think the bread was still very moist.
