Fisherman Stew

Reviewed: Mar. 28, 2012
This stew was really tasty! My boyfriend is super picky, and he had two bowls! I did follow "mommadonna"'s suggestion on skipping the first step. Cooking the fish separately seemed to be extra work for no real reason. To compensate for the fact that cooking it separately makes fish stock, I added some dashi (Japanese fish bouillon) to the 2 cups of water. I also added some cooked rice I had laying around in the fridge. The rice made it very filling and tasted good. Loved the almonds! They added an unusual and interesting flavor and texture. I like food that's fairly heavily spiced, so I played around with additional spices and upped the amount of garlic and paprika.

Three Pepper Chicken

Reviewed: Feb. 14, 2012
This came out very tasty, but I did make some changes, as per some of the reviewer suggestions. I didn't have saltines, so I used Italian breadcrumbs and a real egg for the chicken. I took other reveiwers advice and cut the chicken into smaller pieces. They cooked nicely and didnt overbrown. I also love spicier food, so i added half a jalapeƱo to the pepper blend. While making the gravy, I added some thyme, rosemary, Greek seasoning and lots of black pepper to spice it up. I served the pepper gravy over mashed potatoes with the chicken set on top with a little parsley for garnish. Very tasty!

Best Butternut Squash Soup Ever

Reviewed: Oct. 6, 2010
Oh my goodness! This soup was amazing! I will definitely be making this again! This was my first try at making a butternut soup, and I don't know if I'm going to make it past this recipe to try others. I followed the recipe as is, with the exception that I added only about half the chicken stock. Seemed like it would be too thin if I added the full amount. That, and I added way more than a pinch of cumin and allspice, since I absolutely love those spices. Delicious!

Spring Lime Tea Cookies

Reviewed: Apr. 5, 2010
Oh my goodness were these delicious! I made them for Easter weekend for a house full of chocoholics, and they didn't last long at all! Even the kids liked them. ^_^ I did have a few mishaps while making them, but they still turned out delicious, proving that this is a forgiving recipe. I didn't have AP flour, so I had to substitute self-rising and omit the baking powder and soda. Instead of the white sugar for the glaze, I used powered sugar. I thought it came out fine, but I'll probably try the white next time. One of the reviews mentioned that these didn't change color while baking, and they were right! Keep an eye on them! I highly recommend this recipe.

Apple Brine for Turkey the Night Before Cooking

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2009
This brine turned out great! The turkey had great flavor and was oh-so moist. I didn't find any brining bags in time, so I used a turkey baking bag. This worked, but be careful if you choose this route! We set the turkey (bagged) in a large tub before putting in the brine to avoid moving the delicate bag. This worked, but next time I'm looking harder for a brine bag!

Stuffing for Slow Cooker

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2009
I made this for Thanksgiving and everyone loved it! Bonus because it took up zero oven/stovetop space. That was great! Comments here made me be careful on how much broth to add - only one can of broth was needed. This might just be a new tradition!

Apple Crisp with Cranberry Sauce

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2009
I thought this recipe turned out quite tasty. I followed the user comment suggestions and used AP flour instead of the whole wheat pastry flour. Others had mentioned that this dish tended to get too juicy, so I tossed a little flour into the cranberry/apple mix. Overall, this was a simple dessert that was easy to make - Homey and tasty, but not going to "wow" anyone either.
