Slow Cooker Beef Stew II

Reviewed: Jan. 17, 2013
Loved this! My changes: used just 1 lb. of beef stew meat, added an extra clove of garlic (total of 2), and for the 1 1/2 cups of beef broth, I substituted 10.5 ounces of beef consume (1 can) and 1 1/2 cups of red cooking wine.

Slow Cooker Lancaster County Pork and Sauerkraut II

Reviewed: Jan. 17, 2013
Good, basic recipe. Added extra caraway. Used the fresh, bagged kraut vs. the canned and drained in a colander. Didn't rinse, as we like the taste. Next time, may try a about 1/4 cup crumbled bacon or bacon bits.

Slow Cooker Chicken and Dumplings

Reviewed: Nov. 12, 2011
This was absolutely fantastic. A great base for any kind of chicken-based comfort food. Would be great as a mock pot pie, poured over split crispy rolls. I added rosemary, just because I love rosemary and chicken together. The "dumplings" cooked up perfectly in about an hour. Only used about half one tube of Grands. Used the high fat chicken soup b/c it was all I had on hand. Will try low fat next time.

Spicy Slow Cooker Black Bean Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 16, 2010
We loved the taste of this soup, but did agree that it was a little spicy. Next time, we will reduce the jalapenos by half and serve the rest on the side, along with reduced fat shredded cheese and reduced fat sour cream. We eliminated the garlic powder and used 1 1/2 t of garlic salt, instead. About halfway through, we used a potato masher to smush up some of the beans. 2 hours of simmering later, the consistency was perfect! Nice and creamy, and no blender used. Also, we made this on the stovetop, not the slow cooker. Total cooking time was about 3 hours. We'll make it again. Enjoy!
