This is a great recipe for a yellow cake from scratch. It's definitely going in my recipe box and I will use this from now on! I used 1/2 butter and 1/2 shortening instead of all shortening. I also used only 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and added 3/4 teaspoon of almond extract. Creaming the butter mixture and sugar and adding the eggs one at a time really made the batter fluffy. Of course, when alternating dry ingredients and liquids, it's best to start and end with the dry ingredients. I used this recipe when I baked a birthday cake and got compliments from the guests--one even runs a bakery and she was impressed! This recipe looks like it will be a winner for the wedding cake I will be making for my son in two months!
