About this Cook
Live 50 miles from the grocery store, 100 from the one that has a produce section! Without electricity, food storage is a big issue. My challenge is to work with shelf stable ingredients.
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake: healthy bars, chocolate chip cookies, xmas candy, whole grain yeast breads and muffins. My favorite ingredients to work with are natural sweeteners, wild fruits and berries, and the yeast/gluten combo!
My favorite family cooking traditions
I grew up on homemade tortillas, spanish rice, hamburger soup, and stir fries.
My cooking triumphs
Almost all!! I love cooking meals like thanksgiving and xmas, and baking super yummy goodies with simple ingredients.
My cooking tragedies
echhh, one time I made a "Chinese Dish" with cream of mushroom soup(gag)- out of an old VFW cookbook. We still laugh about that one!!

Roasted Beets 'n' Sweets
Wonderful! I sauteed the beet greens with some sliced pork and onion to complete the meal, very nutrient dense!

Fudge Cake
Yep, I agree with the other reviewers, this is the best chocolate cake Ive ever made. Simple batter, moist rich fluffy cake. Great with chocolate buttercream frosting.

MMMMM... Brownies
I thought these were awesome- easy and yummy. But the consensus of others was that they were too cakey and thus needed frosting. Ill probly look for a fudgier recipe to please my sweetheart, and make these when I'm home alone.
