Easy Never Forgotten Guacamole

Reviewed: May 4, 2015
This is the first time I ever made guacamole because I'm not a fan of plain avocados but WOW this was so delicious! I added a bit of cumin, half a jalapeno pepper and left out the cilantro (personal preference). The tang of the lime juice with the avocado just was a delicious combo. Thanks for this recipe I will make this again and again.

Quick Chicken Piccata

Reviewed: Apr. 13, 2015
Chef John you are my go to guy for recipes! I've made chicken piccata before but I think it is your addition of the cayenne pepper which took this recipe over the top. I added a bit more lemon juice since I had it and my husband said it was awesome. Thanks again.

Sherry Braised Beef Short Ribs

Reviewed: Mar. 28, 2015
Chef John never disappoints with his recipes! Made this following recipe except for using bacon but I did use bacon fat to brown the ribs. This was outstanding and had such a rich flavor. I served the leftovers over egg noodles. Thank you so much!

Slow Cooker Venison Roast

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2014
Delish! I added 1 1/2 cans of wate, 2 Walla Walla onions and powdered garlic. Not salty at all. Cooked on high 5 hours turned to low for another hour. Fall apart tender and a wonderful gravy. This will be my go to recipe for our venison roasts. Thank you!

Grilled Tuna with Fresh Horseradish

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2014
When I read Chef John's introduction I knew this was the recipe for us. We too love to drown our sushi in copious amounts of wasabi in soy sauce. I used 1 tbsp of horseradish powder instead of fresh and Frank's Hot Sauce as I didn't have hot chile paste. It was awesome! Thanks Chef John for the simplest yet delicious recipe! It's my go to recipe for fresh tuna steaks.

Fresh Tomato Pie

Reviewed: Sep. 28, 2014
Had to use my garden tomatoes and never heard of tomato pie. Based on reviews I tried this recipe. Delicious! I did follow tips from others about draining tomatoes and dusting them with flour. Baked my pie shell 15 minutes sprinkled parmesan cheese and then lined the bottom with basil leaves. Sauteed my onions. Then layered tomatoes, cheese mixture to which I added some italian seasoning, added crumbled bacon and, by hubby's request, some venison sausage then next layer of tomatoes topped by remaining cheese mixture. It was a full pie. Baked at 375 for 35 minutes. Perfect. Crust was still crisp not soggy at all. Thanks for a wonderful recipe and thanks to others for tips to enhance this recipe.

Cheese and Sausage Stuffed Zucchini

Reviewed: Sep. 6, 2014
Received a giant bat sized zucchini from a friend so decided to try this recipe. Delicious. Cooked onion and garlic with the venison sausage and then added the flesh scooped out of the zucchini to the pan and sauteed that for a bit too. Stirred in tomato sauce and the cheese and filled the boats. Cooked for 40 minutes at 350 then another 10 at 425. Thanks for a new keeper recipe.

Beef Mushroom Barley Soup

Reviewed: Aug. 26, 2014
My husband said He Liked it! That was all I needed to hear. This was delicious! I added worchestershire and soy sauce as well as a tsp of smoked paprika, salt & pepper and garlic. I also used dried mushrooms. Can't wait to have it for dinner tonight since others say it gets better as it ages. Thanks for a keeper.

Ranch Dressing II

Reviewed: Aug. 15, 2014
OMG I just mixed this up adding the buttermilk and using greek yogurt for the sour cream and fresh herbs. Licked the spoon and thought it was amazing! Can't wait to try it in a few hours after flavors have melded. Thanks for this recipe! I hated to buy bottle or dry ranch because of all the additives. Going to use this dressing in the Rosemary Ranch Chicken Kabobs recipe from this site.

Slow Cooker Ribs

Reviewed: Jun. 16, 2014
Very tasty. I used Montreal Seasoning and didn't have teriyaki sauce. Replaced the orange with lemon for an acid. Really smelled great while cooking and 4 hours on high did the trick. Never would have added soy sauce and worcestershire sauces together with BBQ sauce but it worked beautifully. Thanks for the recipe. Will definitely make again.

Ultimate Shrimp Scampi

Reviewed: Jun. 4, 2014
Really tasty!!! Never would have thought to add Worcestershire sauce in scampi but it works! Followed recipe exactly except for adding a bit more wine and some pasta water to make a bit more sauce. Also added 2 handfuls of baby spinach as recommended by someone else to add some greens and capers because we like capers in our scampi. Highly recommended

Savory Venison Meatloaf

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2013
Yummy, Moist and Tasty Made this tonight with 2 pounds of venison sausage, 1 hot and 1 sweet. Wasn't sure what to expect as we usually put ketchup in our meat loaf. I added a 1/4 cup of shredded cheddar too. Delicious! The BBQ sauce and brown sugar gave just a hint of sweetness. I didn't make the sauce because we are not sauce people but the recipe is divine and a keeper. Thanks...we have lots of ground venison and will be making this recipe a lot.

Apple Pie by Grandma Ople

Reviewed: Sep. 29, 2013
First apple pie I ever made! Delicious and everyone loved it! I made some changes as suggested by others, brushing egg whites over bottom crust to keep it crisp, adding vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg, and sprinkling top with cinnamon sugar 10 minutes before being done. Excellent, simple recipe. Used honey crisp apples and Pillsbury pie crusts and it was a nice flaky crust. Also used a top crust that I cut circle cutouts to mimic a lattice crust. This will be my only apple pie recipe. Thank you!!

Tomato Zucchini Casserole

Reviewed: Aug. 11, 2013
Delicious! I did not add the butter with the breadcrumbs due to the high fat content. Just sprinkled breadcrumbs over the final cheese layer and spritzed with olive oil spray. Smelled amazing while cooking. What a great idea for using extra garden produce. Thanks for the base recipe.

Restaurant Style Beef and Broccoli

Reviewed: May 19, 2013
Yuumy! I followed the recipe except I did not have sesame oil so used olive oil. I used frozen broccoli florets. This was delicious and easy to make. The round steak was tender. The secret is to not over cook it. It's a keeper. Thanks.
