Slow Cooker Turkey Breast

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2014
This was great, but due to the new gov't regulated temperatures on the slow cookers, it needs to be cooked for a shorter amount of time. Low is 200 degrees, high is 300. The old temps were 185 and 212 respectively I believe. So, if you cook this for 7-9 hours, even on low depending on the size, you will overcook it, and it will be dry. This goes for most of your old slow cooker recipes if you have a slow cooker made in the last five years. You should make this on a weekend, and check the temperature as you go to see when it comes to the safer temperature of 165. Then you will have an accurate guage of how hot your slow cooker is cooking at.

Zuppa Toscana

Reviewed: Sep. 30, 2011
This recipe made enough for about no more than 5 med - large soup bowls. I would double it for a large family or friends ( men ! ). Usually it is just my immediate family but we had relatives over and I just barely had enough. It was my own fault I usually use another recipe that always gave me way more than I needed. I've used many Zuppa recipe variations and this is my favorite.

French Bread

Reviewed: May 5, 2011
Amazing. The best bread I have ever made. I made the dough in the bread maker, let it rise for about 30 minutes after the dough cycle and baked for a little less than 20.

Sarah's Applesauce

Reviewed: Oct. 25, 2010
Very good. I didn't add sugar. I usually buy my kids the organic unsweetened and had run out. I doubled the recipe and added water as needed as I went along. Even though I mashed it well, it had some little chunks, which to me, were really good. It was almost like apple pie taste, without the crust. My kids were more finicky and next time I will puree it down more for them.

Quick and Easy Pizza Crust

Reviewed: Feb. 25, 2010
I've made this pizza 2 ways. First as it was intended, I made it for my kids one saturday afternoon because I needed something quick. It was just fine for that. Last night though, I let it rise for an hour in the bowl with oil and a warm damp towel over it. I then put it in the pan spread it out and covered it for another hour. I cooked it at 500 for 9 minutes, and then did the broiler on high for about 45 seconds or so, watching it most of the time in the oven. This pizza the second way with the rise and cooked at 500 was as close to the big national pizza chain as I could get. I also add pizza dough flavoring from King Arthur Flours website. This is the ONLY pizza dough I will ever us again period. It came together so quick in the bowl, I kneaded it for a short time and it was perfect. I also will never cook another pizza at anything lower than 500.

Beth's Spicy Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2008
What an oatmeal cookie should taste like, perfect! Also very easy to mix together. I used golden raisins and regular shortening because that is what I had on hand.

Delicious Ham and Potato Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2008
Wow! This will be my standard potato soup recipe from now on. I added more ham, 1.5 cups of milk. I used something called better than bouillon, it is like a paste. I had no issues with saltiness, it was perfect. However a family member claims hers was too salty, and I can only assume it was from the bouillon she used.

World's Best Lasagna

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2008
This is the first recipe in 8 years I have had to give a low rating. I followed the recipe exactly. It was too salty and somewhat dry. I can only guess it was the amount of sausage that caused the saltiness. My husband finished his and unfortunately the rest had to be tossed.

Weekend Brunch Casserole

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2008
I used half the sausage and that was enough for us. 5 XL eggs. Onions and green peppers cooked with the sausage. It was amazing. I did prebake the rolls 5 min on 375 and had to cook the whole thing about 8 minutes longer since I upped the eggs. It was GREAT!

Slow Cooker Chicken Taco Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 21, 2008
Outstanding! I cut it in half for my husband and I and still had leftovers. I used butter beans because it was all I had, and it turned out great. I used Bill Echols taco spice and put that much in for half a batch and it was perfect. I would double his spice for the original recipe.

Basic Flaky Pie Crust

Reviewed: Oct. 19, 2008
I did not have a pastry blender and ended up using my hands after doing some research online. Everything was cold, including my hands, and it turned out spectacular. I rolled it between parchment to prevent sticking. Thanks for the great recipe!
