About this Cook
I'm married and primarily a stay-at-home mom to my 2 children, but also teach a biology lab part-time at a local college during the fall and spring semesters. I love my family and really like being able to cook them delicious meals frequently!
My favorite things to cook
I have really taken a liking to cooking in the past few years, and LOVE being able to take advantage of all the recipe reviews here!! My favorite things to make are simple meals that taste like they're a lot of work (but aren't)
My favorite family cooking traditions
Holidays and sunday breakfasts... my mom always made a big deal out of thanksgiving and christmas dinners... and she makes some awesome stuffing. Sunday breakfasts were always a big deal too... we'd all go to church then have a late breakfast/brunch that left us stuffed and sitting around reading the paper for a while afterwards!
My cooking triumphs
Shrimp scampi III from this site (although I have to offer much of that credit to recipe submitter MLT)... my husband loves it!!
My cooking tragedies
It's not unusual for me to try to make a recipe easier than it really is... sometimes, it's great and super easy... however, I think the worst was a time I tried to do a mac and cheese in the crockpot... I really wanted it to be good... but it just wasn't!!

White Cheddar Macaroni with Bacon and Thyme
Great recipe!! I made it almost exactly as it's written- only very small changes- used macaroni instead of penne and yellow instead of white cheddar. I thought it was excellent and have been eating leftovers for lunches. My husband wasn't real crazy about the thyme, but that's a personal flavor issue. He said other than that, it was delicious! We both really liked the bacon and I believe including the bacon drippings in the sauce made the whole meal meld together well-- the bacon flavor really added something to traditional mac and cheese! It did take me about an hour, even before baking, but it tasted great in the end. Thanks for the great recipe!

Vanilla - Chocolate Powdered Sugar Frosting
I consider myself to have a sweet tooth and I found the vanilla version of this recipe ENTIRELY too sweet. I really wanted to use the white version, because I want to color it for a birthday cake. In reading the reviews, others said that using unsweetened cocoa mellowed the sweetness, so I tried that. It is better, but I'm still not sure about it. The consistancy was good. Overally, not a huge fan of this recipe.
