It's finally starting to dawn on me that in just 6 days, I'll be in Easton, Pennsylvania for a three week crash course in ethical biology. Aka summer camp for nerds. There will still be campfire s'mores and ultimate frisbee, but most of the campers will be bilingual and a high enough SAT… MORE

Hey everybody, it's the 4th of July! I live in DC, so it's kinda hard not to celebrate. We've got parades and barbeques as far as the eye can see, not to mention our extraordinary fireworks on the National Mall. It's been a tradition for years in my family to climb up on the roof (much to my… MORE

Summer, Day 16: Last night I decided to round the gang up for a movie night at my house. My summer internship with Environment America has been incredible, but it's left me with little time to spend with friends. I wanted to hang out one last time before people started to leave for various… MORE

Summer, Day 10: Today my dad left on his business trip to Central Asia. He'll be gone for a whole week, and though he's promised to email every day, the house is going to be awfully quiet. My brother is still in touring Europe with friends in post-graduation glee, so it's just going to be… MORE

Summer Vacation, Day 4: I'm in heaven. Or at least, this is what heaven would be like if its air conditioning broke. A tad humid, but still so amazing I can't help but pinch myself every so often. I've been spending my time wisely; eating, reading, and sleeping to my heart's content. I'm… MORE

What do you do get when you mix a french-jewish mother, 5 house guests, and memorial day weekend? Way too many leftovers. Notably among the lesser dessert category (processed, pre-packaged things like cookies, which couldn't contend with their home made comrades). It's taken all of 3 days to… MORE

It was 2 AM, and the house was deathly silent. My eyes were peeled open wide, but not a flicker of light could penetrate the darkness. I groaned at the thought of a sleepless night, and listened to the rhythmic beat of my own heart. Suddenly, a flash of light entered the room like lightening… MORE

If you know our family, then you know how important apricot season is. You also know of our extreme distaste for rodents, despite the pet guinea pig we keep so lovingly spoiled with carrots and hay. We live in a little townhouse in the middle of the city. Our neighborhood was once riddled with… MORE

Yesterday at school my best friend pulled me aside and asked in a low, worried voice whether or not I could keep a secret. I gave the usual good-friend response and said of course. She glanced around nervously and asked if we could discuss it in an empty science lab nearby. At this point I was… MORE

With so much going on in the world, it's amazing that I don't forget my own birthday every year. Yes, both last year and the year before I had to be reminded by family and friends that yes, I did deserve a slice of cake and no that pinata wasn't always in the living room. This year however is… MORE

About Me
I discovered this site one morning when I had been craving french toast and the family was not yet awake to help me out. Until that day I had never really known what french toast was made from. I don't think I've been this addicted to a site since my childhood Neopets obsession.
My favorite things to cook
desserts of course
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mother is a french catholic who married into an old jewish family. As such, our holiday meals always consist of matzah ball soup and buche de Noelle; a truly devine combination.
My cooking triumphs
- poaching an egg all by myself - receiving the most praise from anyone who prepared anything for this year's thanksgiving dinner (I made a lovely banana cake) - preparing lunch for the occupants of an abused women's shelter in my neighborhood
My cooking tragedies
Omitting the sugar and doubling the vanilla from a batch of sour cream pancakes. Never has an attempt at healthy cooking gone so utterly wrong.
