About this Cook
I'm a young professional in a scientific field who stays way too busy for my own good. I help run a non-profit organization, I do community theater, I sing with a women's chorus, and in between I work full-time as a chemist in R&D.
My favorite things to cook
I've always been a picky eater (don't get me started) and I've found it so much easier to expand my tastes by cooking my own food. Also great that I can work in some healthy ingredients to supplement my lack of "good food" intake. I love making any dish that has chicken, pasta, and oh - cheese! Also have a weakness for chocolate chip cookies. :)
My favorite family cooking traditions
No specific tradition, but mom made dinner every night when I was growing up. I was raised to believe that family dinners were expected, not optional, and nothing says "love" like a freshly-cooked meal.
My cooking triumphs
Recently, baking my own bread has become a passion. Being a chemist, I know what some of those unpronouncable ingredients are that you see in store-bought or pre-packaged items... I love being able to list all of the ingredients in my food on one hand!
My cooking tragedies
I've learned to always read directions the first time you make something... Had a bad episode with brown rice a while back, tasted like burnt popcorn, but I have since learned and now love to make brown rice, especially in mexican dishes!

Salmon Patties I
I gave this 5 stars because it is a wonderful basic recipe from which to customize your own version. My recipe: 3 small cans salmon, 2 medium eggs, 1/2c bread crumbs, 0.5oz shredded parmesan, 1tsp Old Bay, 1tbsp Texas Pete, a dash of white pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Formed into 6 moderately sized patties and baked at 375 for 20 minutes - came out wonderfully! My boyfriend said they could even compete with his Grandma's salmon patties, and THAT is saying something! I wouldn't change a thing next time except to spray the pan with Pam (parmesan made them stick a bit). Just moist enough but not overly juicy. Delicious!! Thanks for a great recipe!
