Burgundy Pork Tenderloin

Reviewed: Aug. 2, 2010
What can I say. I used the derivative of prep time over (ingredients x difficulty)^2 and came up with 4 stars. Only bad thing is now I have a jug of $5 wine left over and can't throw it out.

Grandma's Chicken Noodle Soup

Reviewed: Aug. 2, 2010
Of all the different chicken noodle soup recipes, this one is king (or at least archduke). Better with a whole chicken and carrots as others have suggested. I always cook mine with extra love, that usually helps.

Cream Cheese Jalapeno Hamburgers

Reviewed: Jul. 29, 2010
Flavor: OK. Having nasty liquid cream cheese squirt out on you: pretty gross! Leftovers: wish I hadn't. Would have been better mashing the jalapeno bits into the meat.

Chewy Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: Jul. 29, 2010
These things are the REAL DEAL. Do as others have said and refrigerate them. I used the non-quick-style of oat and it probably wasn't as good. I went nuts over the nuts. These were seriously on point.

Chocolate Mint Candies Cookies

Reviewed: Jul. 29, 2010
These were the bomb. All you really need to do is set the chocolates on the cookies after they're out of the oven. They will look solid (and sweaty) but they will be liquid enough to spread.

Chicken Quesadillas

Reviewed: Jul. 29, 2010
All the elements were battling for center stage, and in the end none of them win but you lose. I would suggest making your own seasoning. I used half the bell peppers but it was still too much. Even after mashing these down they were about 3/4-in. thick. The cheese sat in my stomach like a brick. Grilled chicken and less cheese by themselves would have been better. The bacon really didn't add anything.

Scotcharoos

Reviewed: Jul. 21, 2010
These scotcharoos are the real deal. As others have said, you will definitely want more chocolatey frosting.

Texas Sheet Cake V

Reviewed: Apr. 30, 2010
This is def. on point. Here are a few tips from my mom Uno: Use black coffee instead of water in the cake part. Dos: Use 1/2 t. almond extract and 1/4 t. vanilla extract in the frosting part. If I eat any more of these I'm going to give myself diabetes.

Strawberry Shortcake

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2010
Here are some pro tips, straight out of MY hood: 1. This is best served right away, as everything tends to get slimy after too long. 2. I didn't have a pastry blender so I used a whisk and it worked OK. The whip't cream was OK but not as easy / cheap as Whipple Top or whatever the storebought brand is. Kind of hard to cut/serve.

Chicken and Bacon Shish Kabobs

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2010
Because I am a professional AND a single mother, here are my recommendations: 1. One: Cut the chicken pieces kind of small and don't wrap too much bacon 'round them. 2. Two: If you're grilling these remember that the bacon grease will drip onto the hot hot coals and cause mega flare-ups. 3. Three: Don't overload your skewers. I made a lot of these (like 30 skewers) and didn't anticipate how much food it would be. Don't let the kabobs fool you.

Best Brownies

These were good but the icing is a bit much. Good cure for the m-m-m-munchies, bro.

Sausage Jalapeno Poppers

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2010
2.36 stars from me. I made these for the superbowl. The first problem I had was getting the cream cheese mixture into the pepper. I ended up piping the mixture out of a tape-reinforced ziploc bag. I would recommend using a broiler pan so the grease from the bacon can drip away. I noticed the peppers ended up neither raw nor cooked after the bacon was done which both made the product difficult to hold and lent to the poor texture. As far as modifications go, soaking the bacon in honey doesn't really add much except to the mess. I tried frying a few and they tasted better than the baked ones (natch), but still would have been better if they were breaded.

Deep Fried Jalapeno Slices

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2010
Overall these were good not great. The batter is pretty good. I had to fry mine at a higher temperature and a good deal longer, about 8 minutes. Otherwise the batter comes out doughy instead of crisp. Perhaps if I would have cut them into thinner slices it would have been better. Be sure to seed your peppers if you don't want them super hot. I ate about 25 of them last night and I'm regretting it today, big time.
