About this Cook
I am a 30 something mommy to our 3 kiddos and wife to my Husband of 17+ yrs. I love to cook and bake and have started my own blog "Mommy? I'm Hungry!" about family style recipes including MY photos of the finished recipes. I love to come here to find new recipes (you should see my stack of print outs!) *as of Oct. '11 I am eating gluten free, and found out in Feb. '12 I am diabetic type 2, so I look for recipes here that I can adapt to suit my needs as well.
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook and bake just about anything. My most requested items for potlucks are Mrs. Sigg's Snickerdoodles and Seven Layer Dip I.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Potato salad and rocky road. Every Christmas I make lots of different kinds of cookies!
My cooking triumphs
Since starting my food blog, I would say venturing out and trying new recipes I never would have before.
My cooking tragedies
Pie crusts. My oven hates them, but I am starting to win! I will also admit to having a tragedy this past Thanksgiving. I had stuck a turkey roulade in the oven to roast, then suddenly forgot to add the broth to the pan. Well cold liquid + hot pan does not mix, and it exploded in my oven!

Refried Beans Without the Refry
No need to buy refried beans anymore, these are 100% better tasting! I made the recipe as is (with the cumin) and we all loved it.

Alyson's Broccoli Salad
I used dried cranberries & almonds, blanched broccoli for 3-4 minutes then into an ice bath. I mixed the onions and broccoli the night before, and kept the dressing seperate until the next morning. Before serving I added the bacon and almonds. It came out great.

Bow Tie Pasta with Sausage and Sweet Peppers
This was really easy and tasted great. I used gluten free sweet Italian sausage with a bell pepper & onion mix (a bought cut up & ready mix for fajitas). I actually cooked the onions with the sausage first, then added the bell peppers. I added in some salt & pepper, garlic, red pepper flakes and fresh basil. Tossed with gluten free penne for me, and regular for the family. Sprinkled in mozzarella and Parmesan cheese for extra yumminess.
