French Pastry Pie Crust

Reviewed: Jul. 22, 2011
I can't seem to understand what went so terribly wrong, both times I tried this recipe. I made it once early in the day, and it was dry and crumbly, so much that I couldn't even roll it out and get it in the pan. I tried adding water, but it didn't work. I almost went to a different recipe, but thought it must have been something that I did wrong because of all of the high reviews. So I gave this one another shot. Same thing - dry, crumbly. I made a different recipe and it came out fantastic. Not sure why this recipe just won't work for me, but I won't be trying it again.

Chocolate Dipped Orange Biscotti

Reviewed: Jul. 21, 2011
I did not actually eat this biscotti, so I can only rate on the actual making of the recipe, which went very well. Everything turned out just as biscotti should, and the dipping in the chocolate was easy and pretty.

Blueberry Smoothie

Reviewed: Jul. 21, 2011
Really liked this smoothie, but did not use the nutmeg. I also used vanilla yogurt, since that is what I had.

Fruity Cookie Tarts

Reviewed: Jul. 21, 2011
Had some leftover refrigerated cookie dough from a different recipe, so decided to give these a try. Wasn't sure what to expect with the different flavors going on, but these were actually very good. Didn't bother with the chocolate drizzle. The fruit gave this a nice, light touch. Overall, this was an easy, quick dessert for the kids.

Chipotle Shrimp Tacos

Reviewed: Jul. 19, 2011
Awesome!!! Love the salty bacon, the smokey shrimp, and the tart lime. These had just the right spice and were not too hot. I can't wait to make these again.

Oatmeal Whoopie Pies

Reviewed: Jul. 19, 2011
Fantastic cookies! A little time consuming, but well worth it. My kids (and kid-at-heart husband) are huge fans of the Little Debbie Oatmeal Cookies, and they loved these. I felt the most important thing in having these turn out pretty was to use a cookie scoop to make these all the same size. That way they all fit together nicely with the filling.

Tropical Shake

Reviewed: Jul. 18, 2011
Can't get much easier...2 ingredients and a blender, and you have a refreshing summertime drink. I actually used a pineapple-orange-mango juice blend, and I think it would work well with any tropical juice combination. We all enjoyed this one!

Chicken and Biscuit Casserole

Reviewed: Jul. 18, 2011
Easy, comfort food. Delicious casserole, and I really liked the basil in the biscuits. Did not use the celery as we do not care for the flavor or texture.

Graham Cracker Brownies

Reviewed: Jul. 18, 2011
I remember my mom making these for me when I was a child - she called them golden squares, but it's the same recipe. After I baked these and chilled them enough to cut, my kids and I put mini marshmallows and more chocolate chips on top and put the brownies under the broiler for just a minute. The graham cracker, marshmallow, and chocolate combination made the brownies taste just like a s'more. These are yummy without the extra topping that we added, but are even more rich and gooey with it. Thanks for a great recipe!

Mango Lassi II

Creamy, tangy, refreshing anytime drink! My kids and I really loved this one, and with so few ingredients, it took no time at all to whip up in the blender.

A very nice, simple alternative to noodle lasagna. This was quick and easy to make, and the entire family enjoyed it. Thanks!

Tin Roof Sundae Pie

Reviewed: Jul. 16, 2011
Spectacular summer dessert pie. I used Crunchy Honey Nut Cereal in the crust, low-fat vanilla ice cream, a layer of whipped topping on top, and then the crushed peanuts. Served with chocolate syrup, and this was very popular. I am not even a big peanut fan, and I definitely ate my fair share! Will make again and even try different flavors of ice cream

Guyanese Lime Cookies

Reviewed: Jul. 12, 2011
Being perfectly honest, I wasn't sure how the nutmeg and cinnamon were going to work with the lime. But....it totally works! These are terrific. The best way I can describe them is like a snickerdoodle with a little lime flavor. It's nice how you get the kick of lime after chewing the cookie a bit. The dough was a little dry and they weren't the prettiest of cookies, but what a nice change up from the usual cookie flavors that the family is so used to.

These are a snap to make and so easy to customize - everyone can add their own toppings. We deleted the avocado and olives. Great, simple, weeknight meal.

Chipotle Shrimp

Reviewed: Jul. 11, 2011
I thought that this was really spicy, but I have wimpy tastebuds. My husband thought it was just right. I used chicken broth instead of the wine. I also had small shrimp that was already peeled and deveined, which made this dish very fast to prepare and cook.

Amish Friendship Bread II

Reviewed: Jul. 11, 2011
Doing the starter process and making this bread with my kids sure brought back a lot of memories of me doing the same thing with my mom. This bread is just as good as I remember it, and my kids and I are keeping the starter going so we can continue to enjoy this bread as well as the many other varieties that you can make.

Lemon Orzo Primavera

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2011
To be honest, I wasn't sure all of the different flavors were going to work so well together. The lemon is subtle, but makes the dish light and refreshing. I served this with lemon herbed chicken, also from this site, and it was great. We had leftovers of the rice, and it was just as good the next night as a side dish to our pork.

Simple Lemon Herb Chicken

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2011
Absolutely delicious!!! Instead of using chicken breast halves, I cut my chicken breasts into strips and then cooked them with the lemon juice and spices in my non-stick skillet. I served the strips over lemon orzo, also from this site, and it was a fabulous meal!

Brownie Crackles

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2011
This dough was incredibly difficult to work with. I ended up adding at least another 1/4 cup of flour and trying to refrigerate the dough to make it easier, but it was a sticky, gooey mess. After making one pan of these, I gave up. I ended up baking the remainder of the batter in little cookie molds. They are delicious, but so similar to a brownie, and not worth the extra work.

Fresh Orange-Poppy Seed Cake

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2011
The main issue I had with this cake was the baking time. I made this knowing I had to leave the house 1 hour from the time I put it into the oven, and even though it was supposed to only have to bake for 40 minutes, it was still raw in the middle after the full hour. Being that I HAD to leave, I took it out and we ended up only eating the edges of the loaf. The flavor was great - I love almond flavoring. And I really liked the fresh oranges on top. I ended up scraping them off with the frosting and adding the mixture to the pieces that were edible. I would recommend making this cake, just leave yourself plenty of time to bake.
