Greek Lemon Cake

Reviewed: Mar. 6, 2013
Followed recipe to the letter, served this at a big family gathering, wished I had tried it out first though. It was edible, but nobody really liked it.

I really thought this sounded like it would be good, but it turned out to be blagh. I won't be making this again.

BREAKSTONE'S Sensational Creamy Strawberry Shortcake

Reviewed: Mar. 7, 2011
This shortcake to me was a HUGE disappointment. I generally prefer strawberry shortcake that is on a more biscuit-y bread, but this shortcake was dry, and lacked any flavor. The topping was good, but it's hard to miss on that because it's pretty standard. I am giving this only one star because I think the bread of the shortcake really makes or breaks it, and this seriously broke it! I won’t be making this again.

Cowboy Stew I

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2011
This was edible, and easy to make, but that's about it. It lacked pretty heavily in the flavor department. I don't think I will make this again.

World's Best Lasagna

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2011
Delicious!! The only thing that I would change is to reduce the sodium content, it was a little too salty for my taste, but an easy fix for next time! I will definately make this again!

Creamy Rice Pudding

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2011
This was a good recipe, but be prepared. It is also super rich! The reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because it was so rich, that I couldn't even eat more than 1 or 2 bites, and it was the same with most of my family. So if you like rich desserts, this is for you!

Quick and Easy Alfredo Sauce

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2011
Delicious and super easy to make! When I made it my family was so impressed, they had no clue how simple it was!! My 9yr old daughter said that it was the best alfredo she had ever had, and she orders alfredo at nearly every italian restaurant we've ever taken her to!

Navy Bean Stew

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2011
This was fairly tasty, and easy to make. It definately tasted better the next day than the day I made it. I'm just giving it 4 stars because it was good, but not wow good.

Delicious!! I used fat free milk, and low fat soups, and two different kinds of frozen veggies, and it was loved by my whole family! Even those weary of "low-fat" food! Quick and easy to boot! Definately be making this again!

Bolognese Spaghetti Sauce with Sausage (Ground Beef)

Reviewed: Apr. 9, 2010
This is a very good basic recipe, and with a few adjustments and additions it was fantastic! I changed the order of operations a bit to get a smooth sauce with ground meat chunks in it. I sautéed the vegetables in my own chicken stock, and then added the other ingredients. While I had the temperature reduced I used my blender to get rid of any chunks. I then returned to the stove top, added 1 1/2 tsp of minced garlic, and 1/2 cup chardonnay, and salt and pepper to taste. Then I added the cooked ground meat, brought to a boil, then simmered for 45 minutes or so. It came out delicious! I only gave this recipe 4 stars because I had to make so many adjustments to give it flavor. However, the recipe would likely have more flavor if I had used sausage.

Cajun Crawfish and Shrimp Etouffe

Reviewed: Apr. 9, 2010
I don't know much about authentic Louisiana cooking, but I'm trying to learn since I’m married to a New Orleans man. I made this dish for him with a few substitutions based on what I have on hand. I substituted thinly sliced chicken breast for the crawfish; I used homemade chicken stock instead of fish stock, and Tony's seasoning instead of seafood seasoning. I omitted the cayenne pepper and halved the hot sauce. I used Tobasco since that’s what I had. My husband said it was delicious and authentic tasting. It was delicious, but very spicy even with the small amount of hot sauce I used. Our 8yr old had trouble eating it because of the spiciness. Next time I think I will use less hot sauce, or even skip it. The dish has plenty of flavor without it. I will definitely be adding this dish to our family menus. Thank you so much for this recipe!!

Big Soft Ginger Cookies

Reviewed: Mar. 28, 2010
Absolutely delicious!!! I made these using whole wheat flour, coconut oil instead of butter, egg whites, agave nectar instead of the 1 cup of sugar, and I omitted the 2 tablespoons of sugar. Perfect! I think the next time I make them I may try to substitute some applesauce for some of the oil/butter to make them a little healthier, but these were absolutely fantastic!

Smoky Four Cheese Macaroni Bake

Reviewed: Mar. 27, 2010
Not very good, the combination of cheeses wasn't quite right. Macaroni and cheese is a favorite of both my husband and daughter, yet neither of them enjoyed eating this. My search for the best Mac and cheese recipe is back on.

Super-Delicious Zuppa Toscana

Reviewed: Mar. 18, 2010
This recipe came out delicious! My husband said it was better than the one we previously fell in love with at Olive Garden. I used homemade broth, and Italian sausage that I made with turkey breast meat only. I also used reduced sodium turkey bacon. I cut the fat but not the taste, it was soooo good! Thanks so much for sharing! This will definitely become part of the regular menu at my house!
