Too Much Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Apr. 23, 2011
Excellent! Rich and moist - I don't think I'll frost them! Did as other reviewers suggested and used only 1/2 cup oil, 1/2 cup milk instead of water, and mini chips instead of regular size. Note: the batter will be VERY thick. I made appx. 24 cupcakes, baked at 350 for about 20-25 min (until toothpick is clean). This is five stars in my book not only because of taste but because of how easy they are to make. Delicious.

Ultimate Maple Snickerdoodles

Reviewed: Apr. 16, 2011
I made these according to the original recipe, except using 1/2 brown & 1/2 white sugar and 6 tbsp of good maple syrup. They are tasty and my husband likes them very much. I think I'd like them even better if they had a stronger maple flavor.

Baked Teriyaki Chicken

Reviewed: Jun. 16, 2009
I used this sauce recipe to marinate our chicken parts in overnight. The next day we grilled them up on the BBQ and have never had juicier chicken. The breasts were very tender and moist, not dry at all. Marinating overnight was key. Ours did not taste salty at all. Will certainly make this again.

Asian Coleslaw

Reviewed: Jun. 16, 2009
I made this for our last BBQ along with teriyaki chicken and it was good. My guests enjoyed it and more of it was eaten than I expected. Will probably make it again.

Old Fashioned Potato Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 16, 2009
This was average. The title is exactly correct - Old Fashioned Potato Salad. Traditional and tasty, but not new and exciting.

Mammaw's Waffles

Reviewed: Jun. 16, 2009
I followed this recipe the way it was written and they were delicious. The batter is on the thin side, which is why I think they are so crispy. We prefer lighter and crispy waffles, rather than thick. Very good. Probably won't use Bisquick again unless there is a big time crunch.

Fresh Cherry Crisp

Reviewed: May 25, 2009
I tried this recipe this weekend and it was good, but not fantastic. I adjusted the amounts of the ingredients a lot. I used about 3c each of cherries and blueberries, cut the sugar in the fruit to 1c, cut the brown sugar in the topping to 3/4 and eliminated the shortening entirely. I also added a little vanilla to the fruit. Plus, I baked it in a 9x9 pan. I think the key to this recipe is to: 1. Use it as a guideline 2. Adjust sugar amount to your taste 3. Eliminate the shortening

Hearty Ham Casserole

Reviewed: May 18, 2009
This is my favorite way to use up leftover ham. I've made this on a few occasions and it always tastes good. I make it pretty much the way the recipe dictates - maybe a little more seasoning and cheese. It's one of my husband's top choices as well.

Tommy's Ham Casserole

Reviewed: May 18, 2009
I personally would give this casserole three stars, but my husband loved it so I'm giving it four. I thought it was good, but not great. I did add some sauteed celery, onion and a little garlic to add some flavor, along with some other spices. I also reduced the amount of milk and added extra cheese. Next time I will add some melted butter to the bread crumbs. I may also add some honey dijon mustard to give it more zip next time.

Mom's Apple Pie I

Reviewed: Apr. 1, 2009
This recipe was good, will need to make a few minor adjustments. Forgot to add an egg wash and/or sugar to brown the top crust. The bottom crust was not done enough so I'll have to place it on the bottom of the oven for a few minutes and then bake as usual. Overall good flavor and will make again. Whiskey added some depth, but I couldn't really taste it. May add a splash more next time.

Baked Pork Chops I

Reviewed: Mar. 11, 2009
This was tasty and simple to make. I did as another cook did - browned the chops 2 min each side, cooked by themselves for 15 minutes @ 350, then added the sauce, covered, and cooked for another 25 min. They were tender. The sauce can be a little bland, so I added some veggies and black pepper. Would also be good to perhaps add some chopped onion and/or garlic and fresh mushrooms.

Honey Glazed Ham

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2009
This was my first ham and it was very easy to make. I don't think it was quite what you would get at the specialty ham store, but considering it was a fraction of the cost, it's good for me.

Brown Family's Favorite Pumpkin Pie

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2009
A great, simple, traditional pumpkin pie. Very easy to make. I did the streusel topping the first time and didn't care for it, and now eliminate it. It still makes a great pie.

Classic Macaroni Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 22, 2008
This is a great classic mac salad. I also reduced the sugar significantly (3/4 c) and vinegar (5 tbsp) and it came out fine. A light sweetness and tang. I added diced red pepper, celery and a little carrot. Simple, easy to make.

Elaine's Peanut Butter Cookies

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2008
I had never made a cookie recipe with cake mix before so thought I would try this one. It was easy, but I prefer "regular" pb cookies. These were too light, soft and sweet. Will stick to cookie recipes w/o cake mix in the future.

Beth's Spicy Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2008
I made these twice-once with only butter and once with 1 1/2 sticks butter & 2 tbsp of shortening. Both times with "quick" oats. They turned out great! My hubby said he didn't like oatmeal cookies but asked me to make a second batch of these. Great, easy recipe. I omitted the cloves. May add dried cranberries next time.

Used recipe as is, turned out great. Husband who proclaimed he hated cinnamon rolls enjoyed these - especially without any frosting!

Grandma Ople's Apple Pie

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2007
I have made this twice now and it has turned out well both times. My second was very juicy and spilled over...but oh well. I mixed the apples with the liquid instead of drizzling it through the top of the crust both times. I also cooked it appx. 1 hour or slightly over. I forgot to add cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla to the second pie but it still tasted good. Great, flexible recipe!
