Cooking was not a priority in my house growing up, most of my childhood meals were between two slices of bread. I am hoping to someday have a passion for cooking, as of yet I have not found an interest in it.
My favorite things to cook
Anything quick and easy! I can follow a recipe as well as any other, but without that I am lost. You will not see me in the kitchen chopping fresh produce or selecting herbs. I am not one to add this or that, I am not daring enough to figure out what would add to a dish, other than salt or cheese...
My favorite family cooking traditions
"Do we have bread?" That's about it. I am hoping to make some traditions, I would like my kids to remember me making this or that, and have memories of me making more than two dishes.
My cooking triumphs
My family loves the super easy lasagna I crafted after comparing recipes in desperation, and the kids also beg me to make the brown sugar meatloaf I found here on Allrecipes years back.
My cooking tragedies
Fortunately my husband is an excellent cook, or my whole family would starve. He can pull out 5 main ingredients and make 10 different meals. I look at a fridge and cabinet full of groceries, and I cannot visualize one darn thing to make.

Classic Tiramisu
I've made this twice now. Once for my family in which I used a 13x9. I substituted coffee for the liquer due to feeding it to the kids. The second was at a family gathering in which I used a trifle bowl I purchased for this reason. The kids loved it, which shocked me as I have a picky eater. The extended family RAVED about it. It was gone very quickly, and I was told I am not allowed to show up to a gathering without it, ha! The trifle bowl looked beautiful, so not only did it taste great, it made me look like I know what I'm doing. I was asked if I always made "fancy schmancy desserts". Leftovers are great too, the kids liked it better after it sat in the fridge for a couple days, and hubby and I definitely thought it was a great leftover treat. It was gone before I could see how it tasted on day three. ;)

Taco Pie
This recipe was super easy, and it has cheese and meat-what's not to love? Next time I make this, I will be changing it of course. My square pan seemed a bit small, so I upgraded to a round deep casserole dish. Thank goodness I did, or none of this would have fit. I had to get creative with the crust, bringing it up around the sides, but still, with all the stuff in this, it barely fit in that, making it very deep. That sounds great, but in hindsight, it made it hard to eat, as one bite was just cheese, one just meat, etc. Next time I will be making it in a 13x9 to spread it out a bit. I will be adding the sour cream after as some had pointed out, I didn't mind it, but for the sake of a picky son. And, the chips, too many! My kids had a great time smooshing an entire bag of chips, but it made it really dry, especially with it being so thick. It already has a crust, so the chips were overkill. Even spreading in a 13x9, I think I will stop with the chips after I have a nice uniform layer. Lastly, I think the salsa and other taco items at the end are a must. With so many different tastes in our house, they will be in dishes like tacos, and each member will be able to add their desired toppings. I do like this recipe, once I modify it!

Brown Sugar Meatloaf
This recipe was delicious! I don't make meatloaf very often, but I would bet this is the best recipe I will find. My husband doesn't want me to try other ones, he says this is it! I wrote this review above 8 years ago. Now two kids later, I had forgotten about this recipe until a couple years ago. My kids claimed they "hated" meatloaf after their impression of it at school. After making it for them once, they fell in love with it and ask for this more often than not. So, husband AND kid approved!
